Pedo/sex abuse priets get off scot free again

The Diocese files for bankruptcy protection thereby negating the imminent jury trial on a pedo priest.

SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection a few hours before it was to go to trial Wednesday in the first of more than 140 lawsuits accusing priests of sexual abuse.
The bankruptcy filing, put in at five minutes to midnight, automatically halted the court proceedings.

The incidence of sexual abuse among clergy in the Roman Catholic church is said to be no higher than that of other churches. Rather, recycling priests with known abusive tendancies/backgrounds throughout the diocese is what opens the to diocese to litagation.

that is not true. incidents in the roman cahtholic church are far higher, plus noone asks methodist, episcopalians, Baptist or Lutheran minsters to abstain from marriage or sex.

I'm double checking that - Lexus-Nexus to the rescue!!

The Priest who baptised me turned out to be an active member of the gay community and known to hire rent boys. I'm Catholic.

The Pedophiliocracy lives.

it is really quite sick to ask someone not to have Sex. Its a natural human thing. What do they expect will happen? Its like telling people they can't take a shit for a year. It aint gonna end pretty...

Rape is not sex. Rape is an act of violence.

Washing Machine 03.01.2007 07:11 PM

of course....i wasnt talking about rape.

Its well known that the repression of natural sexual urges (like the catholic church) is not good and can lead to all kinds of sick things. People are meant to have natural adult sex

Yes, but it is an act of sexual violence. You have to be turned on (as a male at least) in order to commit penetrative rape, which means that to some extent the brutalizing of another human turns the aggressor on sexually. Otherwise they would just go for straight-up torture. An awful lot of murderers link their violence with sexual gratification, whether or not rape is part of their M.O.
Yes, it is violence, but it is violence that is specifically sexual in nature.
Yes, it's about "power," but the "power" is linked to the sexual impulses.
To separate rape from sex is to ignore what it is.

Green_mind 03.01.2007 07:22 PM

I find the urge to post the grossly inappropriate joke.

Rape is no Laughing matter.

(UNLESS YOU'RE RAPING A CLOWN)

!@#$%! 03.01.2007 10:20 PM

ive never been able to comprehend the rape mindset. i could not possibly get a hard-on with a person screaming in terror. i just don't get how people can.

but anyway. while rape is no laughing matter, almodovar's "kika" features a very funny rape scene. i've heard people condemn that movie because of that, but it's really funny-- of course it's actors in a movie, not a documentary.

about the priest(s)-- the abstinence from sex requirement is a crock of shit, but don't buddhist monks do that too? what's the story with them?

Doesn't this imply then that rape is part of a natural range of sexual expression and male gratification need and thus acceptable?

Sex implies consent. Anything else is violence and oppression. I think it legitimizes rape when you say it is a sexual act. Perhaps psychologically there is a transference of libido, but I still don't see it as 'sex', that would be a disease or pathology you are describing. Tumours absorb nutrients from the blood and grow in the body, but its a CANCER, not a new body part! The rapist may or may not get satisfaction out of the act, but there is no consent, and I don't think its useful to refer to it as sexual. Just because the genitals are involved doesn't automatically make it sexual in my book...

And really, it is a terrorism.

Historically, rape has been used as a tool of oppression and control...Royalty would rape virgin brides as an act of social control.

Rape is Sexual, it has to be logically due to the fact that a male has to be arosed in order for it to happen. Certainly from a Freudian or Psychodynamic perspective violent and sexual urges are part of the same component. We can say that repression of natural consentual sex can lead to a violent manifestion. Its not about legitimizing rape its about understanding the mindset in order to prevent it. I can not believe we still live in a society that thinks there is something pure/noble/holy/enlightened about abstaining from a natural human function. As we have seen no good can come of it. Im not trying to mount an argument against faith, its just I disagree with this particular element.
