it's funny - jello biafra did a spoken word accross the street right before the meat puppets set on saturday (right after the buzzcocks).

have you seen american hardcore? I'd say the two craziest shows I saw in the 80s were DK and Fishbone. i'm not sure what definition you were looking for but the crowd was totally over the top and dangerous.

thanks for the pics and welcome, beeez.

great pics! i was at the mohawk show, but i didn't have any way to document it. i'm glad someone on the board did.

ps. i'm adding you on flickr.

to me the american hardcore movie stated it well talking about scene being as much about the crowd, the social envronment and the situation everyone was in as much as it is about about the band or music. find a copy of joe carducci's rock and the pop narcotic if you can.

there was a drunk fat yougish barefoot hippie girl at the meat puppets show - that just discovered slam dancing - so she was trying to start a mosh pit in the middle of all these 40 year old meat puppet (male) fans. kind of funny.
there was definialty a disconnect between her and where the crowd was at.

jazz and free jazz also are results of the social enviroment at the time - there are always spider webs in music that connect each other.
I can hear Coltrane circa 1967 LSD experiments in Nil's Cline's wilco solos.

Nice pictures.

I had to watch the Mohawk show through the fence since I had already blown all spare $$$ on other shows. The show at End of an Ear was great.

That would have been lovely. There was quite a happening party going on outside the fence though.

Say, were you at the End of an Ear show? I thought I saw the fellow in your avatar shake Thurston Moore's hand. Didn't want to say something and make a fool of myself though.

i didn't make it to the end of an ear show. i ended up staying at stubb's to watch ghostface tear shit up. we could've made it for thurston's set there, but our ride decided not to be awesome and did something else.

beeez 03.21.2007 12:31 AM

thanks everyone for checking out the pics I took.

if you're at all interested I've put a collection of sxsw pics here:

There's a short clip of Thurston at SXSW on youtube... unfortunately the sound quality is really bad and it's the same song ("The Shape") that was already on the Ecstatic Peace site and on Sweet Release #3.
