it's a spider bot that runs thru forums, probably sent out by google or something similar. end result- people can search google and find posts here at SY.com...

basically, it's poor board security on the site. i think there's a way to block these spiders, but i'm not tech savvy enough to tell how.

I think people have lurked and so a cookie has been installed on their PC, and they don't remove cookies very often. So when the counter does whatever it does to count people, it thinks that they're still lurking, even if they're not actually anywhere near the board at that time. Does that sound feasible?

Otherwise, I suspect it's those pesky facists.

No, they want to implant some gps microchip that will see where I am at. But then again, I am already a schizoid.

the only way would be to deny access to sub-forums if you aren't logged in. spiders will still hit the forum root, but they won't surf any further. :p

please don't ask me to fix it. despite having php_admin skills, I'd end up deleting the board some day.
