"another guest DJ that you might have heard of"

Jim?

You know, there was a perfect opportunity during the first part of the season (6A) to utilize "New Hampshire" from Sonic Nurse during the end credits of an episode of The Sopranos.

The one where Vito is outed and flees to NH, "Live Free or Die," thus named for the NH State Motto.

I wrote about this on the board at the time. Perhaps, it was the impetus. Yeah, it's not likely, I realize, but it is, nevertheless, possible.

Your news is too cool for me to adequately respond, Moshe.
Sonic Youth Rules!

my g/f is hooked on sopranos and six feet under.

sopranos is well-done, but I could give a flying fuck anymore about Italian Mafia ANYTHING.

six feet under is the most well-made soap opera I ahve seen in a long time, but I still cannot watch more than 30 minutes of it. Is it just me or is every single plot development completely predictable? My g/f can't stand to have me watch it anymore because I predict in great detail what will happen to each character, and not just in that episode, but in the arc of shows to come.

oh well.

i guess it is true. there are only 7 stories out there and we humans just keep remaking them .

ive neve seen 6 feet under as i dont watch tv, i mean broadcast tv.

sopranos however is not the same old boring italian mafia bit; actually it was created by hm this guy david what's his name david chase, who also made northern exposure in the 90s. the "gimmick" i think is that the main mafioso goes to therapy so there is a lot of funny stuff plus strange dream sequences plus a lot of unusual shit. no, its not like that idiot movie with de niro.

if you can't stand any italian mafia i'd recommend you the wire. best show i've seen, kicks the sopranos in the ass for my taste.

but what was i mumbling? doesnt mater. what im glad about is that it isnt the fucking gilmore girls.

atari 2600 03.21.2007 01:30 PM

Six Feet Under is indeed very well-done, it's a good show, but, yeah, many episodes are similar or predictable.

When I first watched the beginning of The Sopranos series back in the '90s, I didn't think that much of the show...(it seemed gimmicky and the production values and acting weren't top-notch like they became very soon thereafter)...so that was my first impression. Now, I love the show and regard it as one of the very finest series in the history of television.

Rob, you should watch the episode from season 3, "Pine Barrens."
Season 6A also had a remarkable one with "The Fleshy Part of the Thigh" even though "Members Only" (the season 6 premiere) won the Emmy for dramatic writing last year.

Rob Instigator 03.21.2007 01:35 PM

I fully agree. Gilmore Girls makes me sick. i will not watch it until they start in on MILF porn with daughters in tow to lick balls.

the sopranos is not the same boring mafia thing. I agree. I however find ANY AND ALL Italian mafia shit boring. all of it. I liked it better when it was called Goodfellas.

I want every single fucking organized criminal fucko to drop dead right this second. i do not feel in any way a relationship to them whether they are real or imaginary on TV. them and the Pope too. they can take his fucking money laundering ass and ship all them fuckers to the sun

atari 2600 03.21.2007 01:36 PM

The Sopranos is a true in-depth psychological character study with the best dramatic writing in television, not (just) some mafia crime drama...end of story. Viewers of the series recognize this.

as far as 6 feet under goes, it is not jsu that the shows are predictable it ifs that the entire premise of the show is to have the characters endure repeated and never ending personal trauma and pain and suffering. it is obvious when they introduce any new story line or character that you are just waiting for that charatcer to have the worst possible thing happen to them and if you pay attention to the background you are given on them, it is very very easy to guess what the terrible occurence will be. I find that to be self-torture, which women seem to love in their television shows...

to steal a line from John of They Might Be Giants, being one of the best television shows ever is like being called the world's tallest midget.

Rob Instigator 03.21.2007 01:40 PM

again 2600, I know this, but I could give a flying FUCK about a character study of italin mafia. BIG fucking deal I say!

sarramkrop 03.21.2007 01:40 PM

This is one of those rare occasions in which i fully agree with atari. The acting and scripts go way beyond the tiresome mafia carachters of other movies or tv programs.

ha ha ha ha ha hahaaa!!!!!

i would rep you if i could, but i think i did just that earlier

king_buzzo 03.21.2007 02:18 PM

Fuck yes! i love this show!

Georgekrz 03.21.2007 11:32 PM

I dont like the show, it glamorizes the mafia and thuggery, period. Yeah I know people say it doesnt glamorize it just shows you the reality of it, but Im not buying that arguement.

tesla69 03.22.2007 08:41 AM

The Wire beats the Sopranos handsdown. The Sopranos is basically a soap opera punctuated with extreme violence, which seems to be a template for all of HBO's praised shows. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoy watching the Sopranos but I find the 2nd viewing doesn't hold up. Its also too much like watching parts of my childhood which I won't go into. The mob are a bunch of parasites. The way these Sopranos actors parade themselves around you'd think they were doing something IMPORTANT.
