Help identify a movie.
 

My memory is really sketchy. All I remember is that it's an American film made in the 80s in black and white. It's very low budget and its about a guy who sells bootleg tapes on the streets in NY. He seems to have a tape that is getting him into lots of trouble with someone. That's pretty much all I remember, other than that the main guy looked a bit like the Rev. Horton Heat. It has a very Jim Jarmusch feel to it but I don't think he made it.

Any ideas?

i thought i was the only person in the world (apart from my friend barry) who's seen that film, we were kind of obsessed by it when we were about 18. i saw it late night on channel 4 and then got the video, i've no idea if it ever came out on DVD.
also, it has an excellent soundtrack.

So did I.

I must've seen it on the same Channel 4 slot. I remember absolutely loving it in a kind of Smithereens, Stranger than Paradise kind of a way but forgot what it was called and was beginning to think I'd imagined the whole thing.
