Berg's Wozzeck
Anyone love this amazing Opera as much as me?
Its such a fantastic work, never see the opera performed but i've heard some amazing things. Im in a period at the moment of being extermely influnced by early 20th century expressionists (i'm moving away from my concrete obsession). I'm about to compose a Serialist piece. I suppose this thead could be used to discuss all things expressionist/serialist |
So I guess no one likes opera here.....
|
i actually had to study it last semester.
hated it. |
Everyone does, im the only one that seems to love it
Does that hatred extend to other 2nd Viennese composers?:p |
I'm really interested in hearing it, I like a lot of Berg's stuff (although not as much as Webern and Schoenberg). My local opera company was performing it this past spring, but I didn't have the money or anyone to go with, so I didn't end up making it.
A serialist opera seems like such a wacky concept, and goddamn, it just seems like it would be so difficult for the performers. |
yeah but i suppose its the wacky-ness that draws me to it. I've got the CD and I love it. I also love Schoenberg and Webern though so.
I find its great for getting people to leave my house. |
I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. Now that I think of it I believe my university may have a VHS recording of it, so I'll look into checking it out. I just want to see how the d00d pulled it off. But, then again, while Webern is definitely the extremeist among the three composers, Berg is the least hardcore in his serialist tendencies. So I could see it working.

Yeah Berg was the most influenced by classical form. But then again so was Schoenberg. Wozzeck isnt that exterme at all really. Its one of the only expressionist operas still performed I believe...which must say something.
On another note has anyone ever seen any of Schoenberg's paintings, they are quite good actually |
