Should MacLaren Go?
Should Steve MacLaren go, or do you think he's doing as well/bad as anyone would in his position right now?
Apologies to those who haven't got a clue what I'm going on about. |
I don't think he's the right man for the job, but the problem is, I don't think there is a right man for the job. Maclaren was crap at Boro - he has no tactical nous and no man-management skills. There must be someone out there who has one of those things. But who?
|
I don't think there is an English manager that can do the job. Coppell would be OK given his playing experience but I don't know if he's experienced enough. Allardyce gets the best out of average players - same with Redknapp - but has never had to deal with recognised quality like Gerard or Rooney. I think that in the end they'll have to look abroad again, maybe to someone like Lippi.

Yes, he should be sacked on the spot. He's crap. My dad's friend had him in his class at school. Apparently he was a quiet lad. Looks like it shows he could never be very good with his words. We have quite a good team and that...

Football right?

Maybe I'll be a little controversial here and say I don't think all the blame goes on MacLaren.
The coach gets too much credit when a team is winning, and too much slack when they are under performing. Players of England's caliber should be able to muster up something more inspiring than a scoreless draw against Israel!! A sigh of relief should be let out considering they squeaked by Andorra. I mean the players are in mid season form at that. On the bright side, the United States seems to have found the right coach in in Bob Bradley. Landon Donovan hat trick!!! |
I think there is a tendency on the part of England managers to keep faith with players on the basis of their reputation rather than their current form. Frank Lampard, for instance, has been in poor form since the spring that preceded the last World Cup, and his poor performance at that tournament came as no surprise to me.
If a player is out of sorts at club level, among players who he plays with wek in week out, how can he suddenly be expected to come into form among players who he's only had a couple of days training with? |
yeah, i don't think mcclaren is the real problem, it's the mentality of the players, and the FA, they should be strung up. england have been an unreliable and underachieving side for as long as i can remember, the draw against israel is a pretty typical result. mcclaren shouldn't be managing england but he's just the tip of the iceberg.

Yeah, but he was a pretty mediocre manager at best at club level. He clearly wasn't the man for the job.
