HELP!!!
i have managed to mess up another computer!
can anyone tell me how i can repair windows xp! |
What do you do to them?
Try pressing the keys a bit more softly. |
no seroius man i have deleted a lot of programme files and have important stuff that i may loose. is there a way of doing it without losing your info?
|
I am a computer ignoramous I'm afraid.
|
Dude, you're fucked.
|
I think crypto... is the xp expert (the xpert?). If you crawl enough he might help you.
|
Don't crawl man, keep your stature, just try a system restore, it will revert your pc back to whatever date you choose.
|
yes, a system restore via your control panel is the first thing you should try. but you're not giving much info... what exactly did you delete? is windows xp even still working at all?
if it isn't or if a system restore doesn't help then you can indeed re-install windows xp over your current version without losing data files. it's not necessary to format your hard drive first (altough a clean install is normally the best thing of course). if it was me then i would first remove the hard disk and stick it in another computer to back up the files though... after that you can format it and do a clean install of windows xp. |
basically the problem is that i ran ls cleanup which is supposed to get rid of unwanted files on your pc but its deleted loads of stuff which is essential like the internet wont work now, it got rid of office, i cant read emails and i cant send them either. keep getting error messages over everything.
tried a system restore but no joy so any suggestions? |

commit suicide on the internet :p (ha ha, ha ha, you had that coming...) but anyway, let's move on. looks like a fuxored situation. however most files can be recovered with the appropriate tools if you act quickly. do not use that computer, and especially do not defragment the disk then, install & run this shit: http://www.adrc.net/data_recovery_software/index.html (that's a free program, i assume you don't want to pay. if you do, just google "data recovery"). most your files are still there but without headers. the more you use your machine the more those get overwritten. anyway, some things you may just have to reinstall. always remember to BACKUP your data, in an external drive, tape drive, cd, dvd, or whatever. this applies to xp, mac, linux, solaris, and every computer user in the universe. -- ps after you recover your important files & burn them to a DVD or what not you may also have to reinstall xp cos i don't know what type of damage that thing did. a clean reinstall is always good, gets rid of accumulated crap. |
take a shot gun and shoot then buy a type wirter and attache it to a phone line
|
i didnt do it yet. i think i am going to have to get someone to do it for me! i am like a bull in a china shop when it comes to computers it seems.
