Extra tracks = boring. Disappointing.

I don't think SY archived shows back then (1988) - I sent a fair number of DN shows to Lee, but as you can see on http://sylrdb.free.fr/1988.htm few of them are soundboards.

Tokolosh 04.13.2007 07:14 AM

Sounds good. Thanks for the info.

Danny Himself 04.13.2007 08:21 AM

Sounds good, perhaps a little disappointing.

Track lists this early are never that final though. The track lists we were given initially for The Destroyed Room comp were wrong.

Cooley 04.13.2007 08:36 AM

I just hope they get Lee's telephone conversation about 7" sleeves from the Candle 12" on there somewhere.

pantophobia 04.13.2007 08:41 AM

i think people got too spoiled by dirty deluxe and the massive amount of unheard shit on it, outside of live tracks, exactly how much is there left in the early vaults

you should all go ask Lee, he's the one who takes the helms on sequencing these deluxe projects, and ask if Nardwaur cramps his style

sonicl 04.13.2007 08:50 AM

In conversation with Steve at ATP, I asked him about the possibility of a box set of outtakes and unreleased stuff, and he said there simply isn't any unreleased stuff that they can put out. Hence, I guess, that the bonus stuff on these deluxe issues isn't all that much to get excited about.

it might be good, i am actually looking forward to all the art work and how they are going to present it, plus all the extra info about the album they will put in liner notes. I haven't even bought the deluxe Goo yet, or the destroyed room. Maybe i will get all three when this one comes out.

pantophobia 04.13.2007 08:58 AM

ever since about 96 when they started up echo canyon, they have pretty much released everyting they recorded pretty much right after recording it

i guess what is left is early demos, i'd like to see demos from washing machine and jet set (although not the ones i accidentally spread around), like more instrumental versions and early arrangements

pokkeherrie 04.13.2007 09:07 AM

I think Steve was mostly in charge of the DDN deluxe rather than Lee? That's what I think I remember reading anyway...

The Goo Deluxe one was a bit disappointing as far as the unreleased tracks went, but it was to be expected that the Goo Demos would be included... and the demos did actually sound really good compared to the fanclub release. I still thought it was worth buying, even when I already had the original album, all the singles and the demos album.

It's probably going to be the same with this thing. In another thread it was mentioned that some of the live tracs were recorded at CBGB's NYC and Paradiso Amsterdam. In that case i've probably already heard them before, but no doubt they'll sound much better on the deluxe version. I wonder what "Totally Trashed" could be... obviously it's some live version or whatever of Total Trash, but there's another live version of Total Trash included as well.

Since they didn't include the 1989 Peel Sesions and the 4 Tunna Brix EP I'm wondering if they're going to do a radio sessions compilation at some point... especially since they left the Mark Goodier sessions off the Dirty deluxe as well.

"John Peel Session on May 18, 1986"
Come And Smash Me / Expressway To Yr. Skull / Moonbeam Magic In A Glass Head Cage / Hallowed Be Thy Name

"John Peel Session on October 19, 1988"
Psycho Mafia / My New House / Rowche Rumble / Victoria

"John Peel Session on October 19, 1989"
Corporate Ghost / Rubin's Beard / Major Label Chicken Feed / Clippers

"Mark Goodier Session on July 20, 1992"
Purr / Youth Against Fascism / Burning Spear / Créme Brûlèe

If we all pray together, it just might happen.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

You're talking about the shows seeded on Dimeadozen.org, right? Yeah, I sent those to Lee - he never mentioned he was going to use them, but he did ask explicitly for DN shows at some point.

BBC charges a lot for licensing - if I recall correctly it's around 5000 euros a track.

Danny Himself 04.13.2007 09:20 AM

Yeah, the BBC is a bastard.

Most of those Peel Sessions are floating around in the internet anyway. I have the Fall ones somewhere..

 So even if they sold released a Sessions CD on Goofin' and sold it at $20 a time they'd have to sell 5000 copies just to break even on the licensing, let alone other costs. That's pretty shocking.

But there are much lesser bands have managed to release Peel Sessions CDs: Gene, I Am Kloot, Delgados, Kenickie... Th' Faith Healers, for God's sake!

pokkeherrie 04.13.2007 09:54 AM

5000 euros per track seems a bit much, but a whole album could be cheaper i guess?
if not, imagine what that 6cd box of the fall's peel sessions would've costed on licensing.

atari 2600 04.13.2007 01:03 PM

it's funny, but I already know which B-sides they did during the DDN time, so I've already made a DDN deluxe.

This other news about the live disc is cool though. I bet it's gonna rock.

I'm definitely getting this, for the better-sounding versions of the B-sides and some new (hopefully) live treats!
