Thurston @ Recyclart / Ecstatic Peace
Hyia Guys,
holy shit went down yesterday evening at Recyclart in Brussels. Hardline ELEPHANTS did their longest gig ever clocking in at 6:05 minutes. Hacky Pack Sac Sac tore everything down with dENNIS Tyfus vacuuming clean the stage ,------WILD... Thurston, Paul and John just gave it their all, they really dug into the music and the vibes at the metrostation/hall were great. Finally met Andrew Kesin ho was there as well to promote the EP major label deal with Thurston. Got loads of merch EP buttons and promo cd/poetry book. Thurston is definitely working on a new solo album as is Lee. Says so in the EP book thingy so... Vids of the show wll hopefully be up soon at the EP site. |
I was wondering about this show.... thanks for the report Jef... I look forward to my Ecstatic Peace overdose at ATP in December!.

thanks for pic!
keeps us informed when recording of it will by floating somewhere, please. |
It was just AWESOME... a really really great show. :)
Billed as a duo performance of Thurston and Paul "unlurker" Labrecque, but John Moloney made his appearance on drums too! Double Sunburned Hand of the Thurston greatness! I wonder if Moloney's appearance had anything to do with the Thurston/Moloney gig in Paris being cancelled, but anyway, it was a really nice surprise. It started really late (around midnight), but it was well worth the wait. Out of all gigs I've seen Thurston play outside of Sonic Youth, this was definitely the most awesome one... and that includes a solo show, Dream/Aktion Unit and Mirror/Dash. Yes, it really was that good. I've recorded both this and the Lee/Leah singer performance, hopefully I can share them soon. P.S. Jef, were you the person sitting on the front of the stage (thurston's side) filming? if so, then i was standing right behind you. |

Yep, that was me. It was such an awesome night. as soon as Andrew is back in Massachusets I think he'll put up the two minute clips of each performance. a shame they nagged my digital semi pro cam two weeks ago, this would have been one of my best recordings. Was stuck with my battered HI-8 for this one. Man, can you already imagine ATP? (ECSTATIC PEACE RULEZ!!!) |

i'll try, honestly. but the problem is that i don't have the means/knowledge to transfer it myself. i borrowed the md-recorder and i will keep it to record boris next week as well, so i won't be returning the recorder and the discs until after that. therefore it will definitely take a few weeks. it will be coming though, i promise. it came out quite well, except for the first few minutes, which had paul labrecque on stage alone. that part was fairly quiet and has a lot of audience chatter in it... bastards, just because thurston wasn't on stage yet doesn't mean it hasn't started yet. the other acts were, eh, interesting. the first one was more of a novelty act, but the second one was definitely entertaining. pretty remarkable venue as well. it was situated in an old train/metro station and the venue was just in the hall of that. the old ticket offices were turned into a bar and the toilets/wardrobe appeared to have been kiosks or something similar. |
we all have faith in the mighty pokkeherrie :)

No pressure... well not much anyway. Just don't bother coming back here if you don't sort it out!. |
