I'm seriously bummed...I've had four 'copyright infringement' videos that were all mtv related...I made sure to never mention mtv but they found 'em. I know, I should've known better.

I've put hours into transferring and uploading, I really don't feel like redoing it...150 videos all gone.

Some of the videos are still working, but not for long probably.

150 videos is a respectable number, sorry to hear that. I guess that's what always bothered me about youtube was the ''copyright'' laws that they have.

One of the offenders was a sonic youth video from 120 minutes in 91 at the Reading Festival.

I'm really sorry to hear that, mostly for the time and effort you put in setting up that nice vids collection... But youtube won't restore your account after removing the copyrighted vids? It's kinda silly to "ban" a user for that.

Bummer! That's one of the many reasons why I don't like MySpace either.
If I'm not mistaken, it was Savage Clone that mentioned VIRB on another thread a while back.
It looks better than MS/YT, and I think you'll get less hassles if you use that to share your vids.
Mind you, MTV are determined to stop anyone, anywhere.

Thats what I don't get. Music videos are free promotion, so why would anyone want to take them down?

its sucks but basically you are "playing with fire" when dealing with videos like that, but wasn't YouTube being sued by ViaCom because of video content that infringed copyright issues. you can't ultimately blame YouTube... and doesn't ViaCom own VH1 which is linked to MTV... i haven't kept in touch with all of these current issues to completely understand whats going on, though i;d think that YouTube ultimately had to do something it seems on this issue because ViaCom pushed them into a corner...

Really though its shitty, because alot of this sort of material is done as an archival/promotional type of thing and people want to see it for that reason, individual users can't make money based on these videos can they? that is where i think the copyright infringement issue should lie, within those who try to make money on it illegally. but i guess the thinking is that if someone is able to view it for free on youtube they would never consider renting it or buying thus the companies who put these videos out are losing money.

I might reupload some of them, maybe make a few different accounts for bands that I have a lot of footage from to keep them organized.

Yes, theyre gone...I will reupload them sometime...I'll make a channel dedicated to Sonic Youth so they aren't all scattered all around my videos.
