Things you don't immediately notice in songs
On She's Lost Control by Joy Division there is an echo getting pitch shifted by changing the speed on Ian Curtis's voice.
|
I'm a little confused. How do you mean?

I love that shit...hearing new things even after listening multiple times to a song/album...REM's Murmur is like that to me.
|
It's easier to notice things like that with headphones.
|
I think thats like a qualification that only good bands have.
|
one thing you dont notice about songs until a long time of repeated listening, is their genius! the best songs only click with you after they have lived with you for some time....
anyne ever think that the start of freak scene sounded like someone hit the record button about half a second too late? |
Flying Saucer Attack's Present uses a looped recording of some machinery. I've always thought it was a guitar effect.

Like if you take an echo pedal and you put your voice through it and play with the speed/time knob it pitch shifts. |
Godspeed's "East Hastings" (I think) has a section like that, though it's more a matter of low volume than a nuance buried under louder sounds. About midway through the song, when everything seems dead quiet, you can just make out the band singing the melody line. I'm sure people who have heard this song know what I'm talking about and remember how cool it was when they discovered it for the first time, because it only adds harmonically when the instruments start joining in.

Haha, yeah. It's very immediate. |
DUDE, I didn't notice that for the longest time either.
Unknown Pleasures has lots of freaky things like that..... |
Kim's voice in the background of Saucer-Like took me awhile to figure out. And is that thing about Sister being recorded really deep under the mix of EJTNS?

i always hear new sounfs whenever i listen to ege bamyasi and almost any sonic youth album.... i cant think of anything specific at the moment though... |
You can totally hear sister underneath EJSTNS... though for some reason, I could never hear it on headphones. If I listen to the album without headphones I can hear sister in most of the silences.
|
i must listen to experimental again sometime. its been a long time!
|
the harmonics in Don aman by slint about half way through.
there are so many records though that i've heard on stereos other than my shitty one and you notice all kinds of things. |
