The Inhuman Thread

Alright, I'm looking for:
-New Jazz groups/artists
-Metal recommendations
-Punk recommdations

Should I get EVOL or S/t next?

And I'm probably buying my record player this weekend. Anything I should really look at carefully that's under $150.00?

Metal-Opeth Deliverance (gonna get shit for saying that now) trust me it's great.
Get EVOL next

Inhuman 04.25.2006 02:51 PM

Alright thanks! I'll get EVOL next, I've been anticipating getting it, plus I only have 9 SY CD's as it is.

For Jazz: Herbie Hancock, John Zorn, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Painkiller (very hardcore jazz)
For Metal: Pantera (I'm not a metal fan at all, but Pantera's alright)
For Punk: The Germs, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Herion (punk?), Plot To Blow up the Eiffel Tower.

I'm sure you've heard of most of them, they're all pretty popular - except maybe Painkiller.
I don't know what you've heard before..

Inhuman 04.25.2006 03:34 PM

Okay thanks! A lot of people mentioned John Coltrane, and Painkiller seems interesting. I like pantera too! I used to be into tonnes of metal, and now I don't like any of it with exception to a few artists (Goatsnake, etc..). I also love Minor Threat, Ian McKaye is a genius.

!@#$%! 04.25.2006 03:39 PM

for under $150, actually for $99 plus shipping, you can't miss with the intro package at lpgear. they give you a cheap audio-technica turntable on steroids-- upgraded needle, upgraded drive belt, sounds pretty good. the thing actually has its own preamp so you don't need a phono input in your stereo and you don't need a preamp if you're planning to jack into your computer. sure, you can get a lot better things with more money, but if you're on a budget, and need something that works right out of the box (not used, not something you have to repair, not something that "may or may not work", not something that may need obscure replacement parts, not something "as is" with zero warranties) go for it.

ps-- evol rules all

TheDom 04.25.2006 04:34 PM

yeah, get EVOL

Some punk, most you've probably heard:

Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime
Husker Du - Zen Arcade
Black Flag - Damaged (these 3 are a must. the holy trinity of SST)
Void/Faith split on Dischord
Flipper - Generic Flipper
Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
Necros - Conquest For Death
Fang - Landshark/Where The Wild Things Are
Crucifucks - Our Will Be Done

Rob Instigator 04.25.2006 04:45 PM

hmmm

I love recommending music to people, but you never know what they like or what they already have heard.

I do not listen to metal anymore. I used to back in the day.

if you can find Dead Kennedys IN GOD WE TRUST E.P., get it. It rip-roars.

I also highly recommend FEAR - FEAR: Live for the Record
It is a live radio gig they did in LA back in the day. FEAR ruled all. They are my favorite LA hardcore punk act.

WIRE - PINK FLAG
old MINUTEMEN
