Oi, lucyrules! Are you gonna tell us about the Dirty 3 ATP or not????

Well?

lucyrulesok 05.01.2007 09:16 AM

Well, I suppose so...

Did no one else go who can save me this task? I'm crappy with reviews...

sonicl 05.01.2007 09:17 AM

Oh, just say who was good and who was crap.

lucyrulesok 05.01.2007 10:07 AM

I saw:
The Dirty Three - Really really good, noisy and loud and exciting. A real highlight for me, especially seen as I hadn't heard that much of their stuff before.
Nick Cave - He put on a really good show, but I enjoyed his first set more. Probably because I was lying on the floor in a stupor during his second set.
Grinderman - Big and powerful. I really enjoyed it but my friends thought it was a bit crap.
Low - I thought they should've been on the smaller stage, they were really good but just a bit quiet. All my friends thought it was awesome though.
Papa M - Probably the best set of the festival (surprisingly). The entire audience was silent, and it was very moving.
The Magnolia Electric Company - Pretty crap really. No offence meant.
A Silver Mount Zion - They were really good as always but I thought their set was a bit long. I didn't stay for the whole thing because I saw them play on Thursday as well.
Mick Harvey - Pretty good.... He's a bit of a rubbish front man though.
Cat Power - I'm not a massive fan, and I thought this was a bit of a shoddy set.
Spiritualised - Again I'm not a huge fan, but to be fair to the man, he did almost die, so I think it only fair that he played everything really stripped down. It was quite interesting but didn't really hold my attention.
Joanna Newsom - Much better than I was expecting.
Psaradonis - Greek goatherd and family play traditional Greek instruments. Really good, but a bit quiet, and hard to concentrate over an irreverent chatting audience.
Secretary - I only watched a couple of her songs, but I quite enjoyed it.
Digital Primitives - These were REALLY good, one of my favourites! after a set of playing unrecognisable instruments and swaying around like lunatics they all sang a song about being really happy. Very surreal.
Nina Nastasia - I was pretty monged out for this, but I thought it was quite nice, but not particularly surprising.

Sorry for the crappy review. You twisted my arm.

I did have a lovely time though, lots of barbeques and booze and drugs.

You didn't see Neubauten?

I trust that you're hanging your head in shame.

Iain 05.01.2007 10:14 AM

Or Roscoe Mitchell? I thought it odd he was even on the bill. I wonder how many people went to see him?

lucyrulesok 05.01.2007 10:17 AM

We couldn't get in to Neubauten... the queue was ridiculous. Same with Bill Callahan.

I'm not a particular fan of Roscoe Mitchell. I'm pretty sure there was a clash there as well.

lucyrulesok 05.01.2007 11:13 AM
