the "things i've always wondered, let's find answers for each other" thread

okay, here's how this thread will work... everyone will post some things they've always wondered about, and after they answer, they can post things they've always wondered about, and then someone can reply to that and so on and so on... it is okay for different people to reply to the same post, but if you're wondering anything you must first reply to someone... ahem.

things i've always wondered but can't find on wikipedia or anything...

1) why does EVERY pop SONG from the 60's-70's-80's fade out? I understand the point of things fading out within songs, but what's the real reason that every song fades out, usually at the chorus? And, live, has any band ever used a fade out on a song instead of coming up with an ending, because that'd be hilarious... (have the guy in charge of sound turn them down during the chorus)

2) why do cartoon characters almost always only have 4 fingers? is it just because it's easier to draw them that way or...

3) why do people like the magick markers?

4) what the hell does "we spies, we slow hands, killer" mean?

5) why does almost every surf band fill their album with covers? seriously, almost every surf band has a few originals and a million covers.. why is this?

6) why do girls wear thongs? like, okay, the intention of thongs was to hide panty lines, but they wear thongs sticking out of their jeans and shit... that's fucking disgusting. don't these whores know that boy shorts are way sexier anyway?

7) how many noise releases do you have to have (see: merzbow, wolf eyes) before you can actually make a living off of and quitting your day job to make skronk all day? at last guess, i'm thinking once you reach the 200 release limit, you're probably good.

8) why did i just get arrested for statuatory boner?

that's it.. get to replying and asking things you've always wondered, smart sonic youth folks!

Q: Why do people like magick markers?
A: There is no accounting for taste- different folks/different strokes

My question:
Is the Wire song Practice Makes Perfect about sex?

cryptowonderdruginvogue 05.02.2007 11:43 PM

when will rhcp stop writting albums about california?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.03.2007 12:20 AM

However many it takes to warp your judgment to that point.

Hands are notoriously difficult to draw. Look at children's drawings with their bird wing like arms. It's much easier to draw a hand with three fingers and a thumb because it then doesn't have to look like a hand. It resembles a hand, but it doesn't have to be perfect. Same reason why cartoon characters eyes and mouths aren't really accurate, it removes them from reality but also allows them to represent the things they are supposed to. Also makes for easier replication.

Some people like them. But I think personally that the risk of having a yeast infection kinda rules them out.

also, the less like a real human and the more like a blank slate that a cartoon character looks like, the greater the number of people who will be able to identify with that character

Its probably something to do with DJing or radio play

There is an end actually, although it's hard to find. What you need to do is play one of the songs at a decently low volume (make sure you can still hear it just fine). As it starts to fade, appropriately raise the volume to keep the sound steady. It WILL eventually end. Either that, or you have found a loop hole to listen to you favorite song chorus' for eternity.

A: They're just trying to fit in with Dr. Dre, Cube, Game, Warren G, Nate, and the whole lot.

no, they just record a much longer ending to the song and gradually turn the volume down when they decide upon a length, i've got a CD of james brown songs that have had the fade outs removed and they're all far longer than the faded out versions

Fade outs mean one of two things. Ether the band is lame at writing songs and cannot write song endings (not that easy), or they want you to know that LIVE the song would go on an extended jam, as long as they see fit. On record they just fade the song away.

2) why do cartoon characters almost always only have 4 fingers? is it just because it's easier to draw them that way or...
yes, it is much easier to draw 4 fingers. it actually looks better. 5 fingers do not look right on cartoons, except for hank hill. also, puritanical americans did not want animals like mickey and donald to look too human.

5) why does almost every surf band fill their album with covers? seriously, almost every surf band has a few originals and a million covers.. why is this?
because surf music sucks ass. It is stupid and sucks and is lame. Jimi Hnedirx promised us, on the album ARE YOU EXPERIENCED, that we would "never hear surf music again." Thank you for that Jimi.

6) why do girls wear thongs? like, okay, the intention of thongs was to hide panty lines, but they wear thongs sticking out of their jeans and shit... that's fucking disgusting. don't these whores know that boy shorts are way sexier anyway?
because they think it is sexy. the like when individual asshaiors wrap around the buttfloss and they yank it. they also like the dingleberries on the butt flosss. they also are just stupid.

probably never

noumenal 05.03.2007 11:22 AM

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Rob Instigator again.

Anyway, yeah fade out = cop out.

A good surf rock tune = Zappa's Nasal Retentive Calliope Music
