Bears' taste in music

This is what they play in this large men's traditional gay pub in central london that we go to, every now and then:

Sonic Youth
Tortoise
Jesus & Mary Chain
Metallica
Captain Beefheart
Motorhead
ac/dc
Royal Trux

Yesterday i spotted this large mountain wearing a Burzum t-shirt.

_slavo_ 05.16.2007 02:29 AM

That ain't bad...except for Metallica.

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 03:33 AM

Not just a bar but an entire scene with bars, coach trips, football team, bear mass etc. Anything that would get them to shift the pound.

sonicl 05.16.2007 03:36 AM

Is bears' expenditure still referred to as the "pink pound"? Or is that only for camp gays?

pbradley 05.16.2007 03:41 AM

Gays go camping?

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 03:42 AM

I don't know. It's only in the past few years that bears have become more and more popular on the gay scene. I think that's because more and more guys are tired of silly, bitchy camp queens, even though fetishizing someone just because of their body size is just as bad.

[quote=Nefeli]hahaa...thats awesome..
although would expect that they might need the variety, or what if a nonbear (dont know if there s a term here) wants to "join"?

They're called 'chasers'.

you are absolutely right of course.
just seeing the issue of random sex being usually taking so lightly and with humor, using terms and categorising people like this didnt shock me or made me think in politically correct way, have to admit.

Absolutely. There's nothing wrong with using those terms, and they have been invented by gays themselves, so there's nothing offensive about them. In my experience bears are just happy to be thought of as that, rather than, erm, fat b......... It gives them the status of sex gods, rather than being thought of as someone who might have a slight eating problem, and therefore a mental one too. I just find it kinda wrong, because i don't like people who define their sex appeal by their own looks alone, but then i find a lot of things wrong in general.

looks or no looks, how does one define their own sex appeal?

By making themselves fall into a category of people who are the object of sexual desire.

Toilet & Bowels 05.16.2007 05:54 AM

i guess that's probably easier if you are gay

sarramkrop 05.16.2007 05:57 AM

And it was indeed referred to gay stereotypical types more than anything.

Iain 05.16.2007 05:58 AM

I define my sex appeal as excellent!

Toilet & Bowels 05.16.2007 06:01 AM

so your saying guys make a point of becoming bears? i always assumed they were bears because they didn't give a shit.

Exactly. I can't count how many times a simple chat with someone lead to the question 'mine or yours?'. You start thinking that a lot of gays are mainly motivated by sex and not much else. I repeat, a lot of gay men, not all of us.

They are more conscious of being that now, and that's because they seem on demand a lot at the moment. If you have a proliification of gay bars and clubs that are mostly frequented by hairy big types, i assume that you are making quite a point of being known as a bear.

i think that's just men, not specificly gays. if women had the sex drive of men we'd still be living in caves.

You're right to an extent, but read Nefeli's post above mine, because it says it better than i did. Sex comes up constantly in a lot of conversations amongst gays, that's a fact.

sonicl 05.16.2007 06:13 AM

Are there a lot of bears around? And how common among gays is a taste for bears?

What I'm asking, I suppose, is does a fat bloke have a better chance of getting his end away as a gay than as a straight guy?

jico. 05.16.2007 06:14 AM

so, bears are the gay kings. haha great... what's so sex appealling in bear?
