Voivod
Anyone likes this band? I have to admit that I haven't listened to anything they have done after Angel Rat, so I can't tell much about that, but Rrrooaarrrr!, Killing Technology and Angel Rat are pretty cool records.

What a coincidence. I saw a Voivod CD in a charity shop for £2 yesterday, and thought about buying it, but they looked like a hair metal band on the cover so I didn't.

Which album was that? They are not hair metal.

maybe unhelpful, but fairly amusing just because of this one comment, so not useless. :) |
The CD in the charity shop was early to mid-90s. I just looked on Amazon to see if I could recognise the cover, but I didn't.
I know that Voivod are, for want of a better phrase, avant-metal, but I didn't know whether maybe they'd gone through a dodgy phase, rather like Celtic Frost. |
Dudes have influences that range from Slayer to progressive rock. They could skate on thin ice effortlessly well, but I'm not sure if they managed to have a dodgy phase because of that.

yeah, but on the first annihilator albums they look totally hair metal, but they are amzing records! Dimension hatross by voivod is pretty great. |
RRRÖÖÖAAARRR!!! = one of the best metal albums ever!
i have friends who love the post-angel rat albums but yeah, i haven't given those a chance. i heard one song of their last album with jason newsted on bass and it sounded like rocket from the crypt only a bit heavier. a lot of people hate hella now, but if you listen to dimension hatross, you can totally see where they got the whole thing of the technical playing plus weird "elliptical" vocals. hey porky: http://oscillatorzine.blogspot.com/2...rrr-disco.html (scroll down for english) |
Coolio, thanks for that. I'll give it a read.
