Richard Thompson
I only have Fairport Convention records. Regarding Richard Thompson's solo carreer, are there any fans here ? Could someone recommend me must-haves ?

RT is amazing, but he makes pretty inconsistant records. There's great great stuff on all of them, but also a fair amount of padding.
-you? me? us? -front palour ballads -mock tudor are among the better of the recent ones. BUT the first thing you should get is WATCHING THE DARK, a 3 disk retrospective. RT is (at least) two people: a great, tradition folksinger, and an electric guitar master. But, no matter what he's playing, if he plays a show near you GO SEE HIM!!!! No joke. |
yeah if you like looking at someone and going "oooh thats some impressive guitaring" he's your man
|
^ I suppose if you're half-tone deaf and slightly retarded, then just gawking will provide some thrills. However, if you can hear well, you'll discover that RT hits all the right notes in just the right order, and that he's a very emotional player. (This is, of course, also evident on his records.) The above comment makes him sound like Joe Satriani or something.
Also, his stage banter is great. |
