I work with depressed people
 

Seriously. They are seldom in a good mood. I feel like a jerk if I laugh or try to tell a joke. What is wrong with these fuckers.

Man, I am so on/off when it comes to depression.

Do you work in a mortuary ?

Is the work very boring, high-pressure, or generally unfulfilling? That can lead to massed depression.

It's not that I don't sympathize with the depressed. I know it's a serious problem. I'm talking about sad sack, nothing ever pleases them, every day's a drag, have no fun worker bees. No sense of humor. No sense of fun. No effort to make the work day enjoyable, or just make the best of it. No imagination. I'm tired of it. I guess it's a good thing I'm quittting! They can have this place.

No. It's actually creative. It is in higher ed, where there's a lot of politics, and that no doubt has something to do with it. Still, it is higher ed, where there's the opportunity to stretch a little, where people appreciate imaginatiion and humor. My office mate sighs all day. He won't talk to me. He never has ideas of his own. I come up with all the freaking story ideas, the headlines, everything. He does what he's told and nothing more.

Which is weird, because he should see that my work is rewarded more than his--that is, I get attention for coming up with the fun stuff, with the creative ideas. I get compliments and shit for this stuff, and it's easy and fun. I don't get why other people don't get that.

No matter what work I do, I don't see any point in not trying to have fun with it, with trying to find some way to make it as enjoyable as possible. The results are always better, and the work day goes better, and ultimatetly, you find more reward.

some people embrace and cultivate misery as a second career. it's no longer your problem, is it? you're quitting. hurray!

some people are the living dead...my company is full of them. In some ways though, its necessary, you can't have too many lively ones like me.

You never know what is really going on with that type though, they may have to work 2 jobs or take care of a sick relative or are on meds.

True. I suspect home life stuff. It intrudes sometimes.

Like Tony says, though, You have to focus on the good times.

Otherwise, foggeddaboutit.

For most people work is a necessary evil.

And sometimes the best way to get through the day is just to switch off, put your head down and get on with it.

Used to be one of them, now I try to be as happy as I can be.

some of my co-workers are a bunch of puppy dogs . they know they've gotta relax and make the best of things , and they play around , shoot the shit etc .

i feel the same way, yet i never feel like i can jump in on their jokes or conversations . id like to , its just that i really just have a lack of words, (and, well, imagination ) . so i get excluded a lot as being one of those sad depressed/ing dumps . Frustrating as hell !
