Aw, Fucksticks...

I got an A- in Spanish. That is my first A- since 6th fucking grade. I had a 92.5% and my teacher said he won't round it up (I'm still crossing my fingers until the actual report card comes though). This probably ruined my chance of Valedictorian. Eh, whatever, there are more important things.

I don't really like Spanish that much. It'd be cool to speak another language, but I just don't enjoy learning them. One more year of Spanish (III), and I'm done. Fuck AP Spanish.

Today was my last day as a sophomore. I got elected Speech president for next year. Cool. That'll be fun, and it'll help for college applications. Speaking of which, where the fuck should I go to college? I got a year and half to think about it before applications are due, but I like to think about it anyway.

SynthethicalY 06.14.2007 03:09 PM

A in spanish is still an A. Go to Berkeley you will be right near San Francisco. Or Columbia or NYU or USC, UCLA So on.

Alex's Trip 06.14.2007 03:11 PM

UC Berkely and USC and UCLA are some of my top choices right now. I'm thinking about other private schools too, like Stanford.

I don't know if I want to leave California for college.

king_buzzo 06.14.2007 03:11 PM

A- and you're fucking complaining??? Chill out man, its a good grade.

youthoftomorrow 06.14.2007 03:12 PM

you could still go for saludatorian. my dad was a saludatorian (i didn't even fucking come close).

i couldn't stand Spanish III. so i switched to Latin I. easy as hell.

Savage Clone 06.14.2007 03:13 PM

Oh No Not An A Minus!!!!!!

I'm not complaining so much as I am venting. I wanted Valedictorian and shit. I guess I'd say I'm indignant. I felt I deserved an A. My teacher was the kind of prick who would give you a B- on A+ work because it was messy. Plus, if I had just got one more question right on the final, or did one thing neater, or whatever, I probably would have got an A.

SynthethicalY 06.14.2007 03:15 PM

Why is so much emphasis on having to do so much extracurricular activities. My own time is my own. Not to do something that will be a bore. I am not aiming this at you Alex. But I find it ridiculous to have so much emphasis on doing so many things before High School is over.

Savage Clone 06.14.2007 03:17 PM

High school valedictorian only matters during the graduation ceremony and getting into the college of your choice, for which your grades alone will suffice anyway. You said it yourself; there are more important things.
Competing with yourself and challenging yourself are great, but something always stuck me as lame and point;essly competitive about the whole "winning" school angle of this supposed honor. Let's give the overachievers some more pressure, since they already put all kinds of pressure on themselves to begin with! Yay!

You silly self-pitying donkey's ass.

I told myself that to do extracurricular activities so I could get into a nice college, but I swore to myself that I would only do something if I enjoyed it. So I spend my time doing things that I enjoy, that will simultaneously help with college.

I know, I know, I know...

I don't feel pressured to do well because I feel like I have to get into a good college or else I will fail and never find a good job blah blah blah...I am motivated to do well because I want to get into a good college, so I can get out of the house when I graduate and go to a university unlike my sister who is in community college (nothing wrong with that) or my aunt and uncle who both live with my grandmother. I see my family, and they motivate me to do well, so I can get the fuck away from them. I realize the A- won't stop me, but I worked really hard, and I honestly felt I deserved the A.

Alex's Trip 06.14.2007 08:14 PM

My dad said he doesn't want me to be an English Major (which I'd like to be) because my uncle is an English Major and he lives with his mom. Fucking retarded.

pbradley 06.14.2007 08:32 PM

I suck so hard on languages. Most of the success I have in schools comes from my ability to undertand the logic of the material (which is why I do better in mathematics, the sciences, and philosophy courses) but language courses are difficult in this sense. I can understand the logic of the grammar and general spelling rules but vocabulary is irrational. There's nothing inherent in the spelling that dictates the word's meaning, it's all memorization. And I fail fucking hard on that.

drrrtyboots 06.14.2007 09:23 PM

If you let your dad choose your major i'm pretty sure you're heartless fool. And an A-? You can go to Harvard and still end up in your parents' basement so don't shit on yourself about it.

luxinterior 06.14.2007 09:34 PM

Try harder next time, slacker.

luxinterior 06.14.2007 09:37 PM

And some more words of advice: As long as you don't go to this school, you'll probably be OK.

Oh god no. I won't let him pick my major. My parents want me to be a pharmacist. Fuck that. Next time they bring it up, I'm just going to start yelling them I swear.

cock, you should be able to ace that class, isn't that the language of your parents and ancestors? you don't get any extracurricular practice?

now, dont be such a fucking pansy with the grades. learn to develop some scars in your life, or take some fuckitol and enjoy a little. yes, there are more important things than being obsessed with an A-- don't get me wrong, try your best to get the best grade, but don't put so much stock on perfection-- it's overrated, and a cover for serious character defects. accept fallibility.

where should you go to college? what did you want to do? tell your dad to fuck off-- he'll just induce a later crisis if he doesn't let you be yourself-- think of all the money you'll save in therapy and hospitalizations if you just learn to be yourself at an early age.

if it comes down to it, you can tell him that your uncle did not have a perfect academic record like yourself, so he can kiss your ass because his comparisons don't apply. if all else fails, tell him you're going to be the next harold bloom, and he better not get on your way or you'll have to kill him, oedipus style. :D

Thanks for the advice, but you guys are taking this thread a bit to seriously.

It ain't like I'm about to jump off a building. This thread was really supposed to be about the college aspect of my future. I know who I am, but I don't know where I'm going. But I know that I'm not about to let my dad or my mom tell me.
