I lost years of recorded music
 

i dont know if anyone cares, but i just lost yrs of recorded music i made.
i bought an external hard drive and it told me to synchronize the files
so i did
then i cleaned up my computer of all the files i jsut put onto the hard drive...and then something happend and all the files in the hard drive started removing them selves.....so now i have nothing..i feel so shit and mad.

oh man, i'm terribly sorry. maybe you can get with someone and try and restore the files. i've heard that sort of thing is possible.

Sorry to hear that. There is a way of restoring the files, but I've heard that it can be a tad expensive. You also remind me that I should back up a lot of my music from the past year or so, as my computer at home is becoming increasingly neurotic and it might die soon.

You could try this file recovery software Bruce, but you'll have to buy it first.

i had a similar thing happen to me, my computer just died and i lost everything on it, it was all irretrievable too. The only important thing i had on there was all this extremely rare Elliott Smith music (about 50 songs) that i had gotten off a site years before that had since been taken down by the record labels. I managed to get it all off my ipod back onto my new computer using ipod rip, and i have it all backed up now.

It's a hard lesson to learn, and now you have learnt it the hard way. Hope things work themselves out. :)

i try and make backups of anything really important as i have lost things before that were terribly important to me. its worse if its someone elses you lose.

well i guess thats the funny thing, as i was making a back up in a way.

I don't know about recovery programs but maybe some technician can help you with that.

take it to a data retrieval service, is a little expensive but they can get the data back

that's the worst feeling in the world. I lost some of my best photographs a couple years ago. I thought all the files transfered correctly. Didn't double check and proceded to clean them off my main HD. =(

yeah...

i overwrote/lost a couple songs before that i'd spent hours on and felt like total shit, so losing years of recorded music... i feel bad for you.. i didn't read all the replies, so someone may have asked already, but did you ever burn anything for anyone? any of the stuff you made? because at least there's copies of SOMETHING still floating around that you could get back.

but yeah, can empathize, but .. time to make new music, man, that's all i can say..
