Some Info on the Amazing Headliner:

RAMLEH are one of the 'holy trinty' of original Power Electronics
groups, alongside WHITEHOUSE and SUTCLIFFE JUGEND. Formed in London
during 1982 by Gary Mundy and Bob Strudwick. The latter had dropped
out and given up on music to be replaced by Jerome Clegg in time for
Ramleh's first public appearance in 1983. The Mundy / Clegg line-up
performed all the Ramleh live shows and recorded the " A Return to
Slavery" LP and "Hand of Glory" 7" EP. Both of which appeared on
Mundy's now legendary Broken Flag Records label. The final performance
of the 'Power Electronics' era Ramleh was held at the Air Gallery in
London in July 1984 which tied in with the release of the "Statement"
compilation album to which Ramleh had submitted their final work
before disbanding indefinitely.

By 1986, when the time was right for a reunion, Clegg had dropped
out to be replaced by a collective of musicians including Stefan
Jaworyzn, Matthew Bower, Stephen Thrower, Frank JFK, Alex Binnie and
Stuart Dennison who all joined Mundy in occasional Ramleh recordings.
They eventually evolved into the band SKULLFLOWER - recording for both
Broken Flag and Shock Records - before Mundy left to concentrate on a
new two- piece lineup, which involved Philip Best, whom he had first
worked with as THE MALE RAPE GROUP back in 1982. This version of
Ramleh went onto become the most prolific version of the group.

After another lengthy break Ramleh are now back recording and
playing live shows, albeit in a very different style to how the band
originally started out. But, in order to celebrate 25 years of work
and the CD boxset reissue of the "Awake!" set , Ramleh will be
performing a very special unique one-off set of 'Power Electronics' at
The Hook in Brooklyn, alongside another Broken Flag related artist
from the U.K, Putrefier, and sets from Thurston Moore, Wolf Eyes and a
collaboration between Prurient and Carlos Giffoni. This show has been
organised by No Fun Productions to whom we are very grateful.

- Steve Underwood / Harbinger Sound.

another one bites the dust...

Saw Bardo Pond at Death BY Audio - fucking brutal heat, no air conditioning or even windows. I used to live up the street in the 80's when that area was totally crack and junked out....machine gun battles outside my apt...now its hipster central....

Georgekrz 10.12.2007 09:12 AM

moshe- man you saved me a trip to the Hook, I had no idea. thanks.

Btw- so it seems Thurston is on 1st? get there early I guess.

(L train to Bedford) btw. Never been there.

Georgekrz 10.14.2007 09:36 AM

Thurston was on first, with another guitarist, but I don't know that guys name. about a 10-15 minute set. At the end he planted the guitar in the ceiling tiles.

Death By Audio was packed (at least 200 people), but it is a depressing dump. However all the bands were great, Ramleh put on a blistering set, although at that point maybe 20/30 percent of the audience had split following a pretty long set by Wolf Eyes. I think Wolf Eyes were on around 12 Mid. and Ramleh sometimes after 1.

BTW- There was an interminable wait between Giffoni/Prurient and the next band (close to an hour?). chabib was taping, along with about 5 other dudes(at least 5...)

and, I picked up Pain Jerk / Incapacitants Live at the No Fun Fest 2007, Great cd, with a nice booklet/pictures.

Not only did he shove his guitar up through the ceiling tile, but he left it hanging there and walked off stage! It was one of the greatest rock moments I have ever witnessed. I loved the venue. Yes, it was a dump, but it had the feel of someone hosting a party in their basement. Very intimate.

Now if Thurston really wanted to make a statement, he would have left his guitar hanging from the ceiling and gone home. Instead, he came back and retrieved it before the next act took the stage. Maybe someday...
