Liars tour - what to expect
Hi !
I saw the band play le Point Ephémère, Paris yesterday - the place where Two Dollar Guitar gave their show last December. It was a rather short set. We entered the place before 8 o'clock, there was a DJ set, then Liars came on, and it was over at 9:45. They gave four of their new titles a try. These stand aside from the previous 2 albums (no idea about the first), and it was a bit weird to hear them. The first they played, called Freak Out was verse-chorus-verse, pop like, with something vicious about it (seemed like verses and choruses were short, repeating over and over). A bit like when SY started flirting with pop. They played Pure Unevil, for which Angus played the bass and Aaron did all the singing. Heavy bassy sounds. The other two new songs they blended in a medley that mingled with their former work much more easily. The first song of that medley had a great guitar part, SY like to speak lazily. And, that's the surprise, this guitar part was played by a fourth member they didn't introduce us to. The man played all through the set, apart from the encore. As far as new material is concerned, I couldn't find any Neil Young association (mentioned on the Pitchfork article provided by one of you). I don't know much about Young except from three albums a friend lent me four years ago. Highlights of the night : We Fenced Other Gardens With the Bones of Our Own, Brocken Witch. So there, for those who'll be at Pukkelpop... |
yeah their new album has some cool stuff on it.
not totally sure how i feel about it yet. |
i love the new album. its a grower, wasnt sure at first but i fucking love it. its not a drums not dead but then that wasnt a wrong so we drowned which in turn wasnt a monument on top which wasnt anything...
its liars, itsgreat, hope the fuck they come to ireland, we promise to treat you good this time, well if a different promoter brings you!! last time they played there was no advertising, about 50 people turned up. the promoter was a bit of a tool apparantly, i dont know him personally but if you get a band to come from nyc to play ireland who are not the strokes, you better get a few posters out yknow..... anyhooo, the new album is excellent..... |
i thought i liked them until i saw them live. it was horrible. i paid $10 and still left before 1/2way through the set.

I had a great time when I saw them live. There were only 10-15 other people there, but it was fun. Loud.

I've listened to Drum's Not Dead and They Were Wrong... - don't know their first, and the new one is not supposed to be available. I'll say Drum's It's more coherent and has beautiful things all over all over it. |
Drum's not Dead is the choice.
