Opinions on new Deerhoof record?
I think Friend Opportunity is the shnizzle, but I was wondering what the rest of you rockandrollers think. Eh?
|
it's pretty legit
|
I'm down wit it.
|
it's good. it's no runner's four but it's probably their second best album. for a band who releases so much shit, they still are quite creative.
|
So you recommend Runner's Four? I'm new to Deerhoof, as you can see.
|
i think runner's four is by far their best, and i'm familiar with all their records.
|
Thanks for the rec, then. I'll check it out.
|
no no. runners four is not their best, it's probably one of their worst.
but it's still an awesome album. you won't know deerhoof until you experience apple o'. milk man is probably the best starter album. i like friend opportunity - very funky, and good live... but, it's not exactly new anymore now is it? |
New to me. I looked at it for weeks every time I went to the record shop. It looked cool, I'd heard one cool song on the radio, but was it really the record for me, I wondered.
I finally went for it and grabbed the store's last vinyl copy last week. I like it. |
actually, i think friend opportunity is their most boring album, i mean it's not a total wash or anything, some songs are great, but it's so slow and cutesy that i haven't heard it since march i think.
reveille is fucking awesome and so is apple o, milk man is kinda like fo but with a little more spark and the runners four is like their most rock. |
Might have to get Runners... They're a very interesting band, I think.
|
i think your best bet is to go backwards, as you already started with fo, get the runners four, then milk man, and so forth.
oh, on my last post, i mean milk man was in the vein of fo, not apple o, i got confused there for a bit. |
Thanks. The store has Runners on vinyl and the rest on CD, so maybe that's a sign... ;)
|
My favs:
1) Apple O' 2) Milk Man 3) Holdy Paws 4) Reveille 5) Friend Opportunity 6) Green Cosmos 7) Runners Four 8) Halfbird 9)The Man, the King, and the Girl Actually it's hard to choose from 6-9 |
this thread is full of disagreements.
i'll go ahead and post what i think.. i changed my mind about friend opportunity being their second best now that i think about it... 1) runners four 2) reveille 3) friend opportunity 4) apple o 5) milk man 6) Holdy Paws 7) Halfbird 8)The Man, the King, and the Girl gotta give it up to green cosmos, that's a great ep... DOG ON THE SIDEWALK DOG ON THE SIDEWALK I SAW I SAW |
apple o' is pretty boss. I still need to buy the new one.
|
daft as a brush
|
i was not at all impressed with friend opportunity.
the first two songs are brilliant. then it kind of gets really boring from there. i have tried to like it, but cant. revielle is much much better as is the runners four. plus her voice really annoys me on this album. i finally gave it away to as friend cause i saw no reason to listen to is again. except for perfect me and +81 |
I remember getting Revielle when it was released and being blown away.
Then after a while the vocals got on my nerves. Greg Saunier is still one of my favorite drummers today. |
i haven't heard the last 2 albums but halfbird is my fave. they'll play here in helsinki next tuesday, should be fun!
