SY Compilation For A DJ
I was at a rock club last night and I asked the DJ if he had any Sonic Youth, and he only had Teenage Riot and Sunday, he played Teenage Riot of course.
Anyway he approached me later on as I was leaving the club saying he used to have loads of SY stuff back in the 80's, but he's lost it all, he asked me to make a compilation of SY tracks from 80's to present, and since I don't know all of SY's songs (I only have 8 albums, I'm pretty new to the SY world, so yeh I'm a noob) I was wondering if you could help me with a tracklisting, with the tracks you all think is appopriate to be played in the first hour of the night club. |
Welcome to the forum, nice pick for a thread.
Any of these will do in the night club: - Brother James - The World Looks Red - Death Valley '69 - Star Power - Expressway to yr.skull - Macbeth - Catholic Block - Into the Goovey - Dirty Boots - Dissapearer - 100% - Sugar Kane - Skip Tracer - Empty Page - etc etc |
The Burning Spear is maybe a bit too strange, but I think it would perfectly fit

I agree with _slavo_ especially Brother James and Disappearer. Would also add Death to our Friends ( i know instrumental buts its great to dance to!) and Drunken Butterfly, love the noise ahhhhhhh
|
here's a few more to add to slavo's list:
Incinerate Kool Thing Hey Joni Sunday Schizophrenia Death Valley '69 |
Thanks, I've made the CD now using the tracks suggested, but I also included Bull In The Heather
|
did you throw mildred pierce on there?

well, it'd be nice, except for the noise part in the end of the song. |
Mildred Pierce is amazing!!! I'd put the demo version on for the full experience but like you said, it's got alot of noise, but then again the DJ plays alot of hardcore which is noisy as hell (not in the feedback sense).

It would have been nice to include 'Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream.'
But I guess you can only fit so much. |
