Ghost
i searched for a thread to celebrate the joy of this band but couldn't find one, so i'm starting one.
i love them because every album they release sounds different from one another but at the same time, there's this progression/reaction going on that's pure genius. my favorite album right now is tune in turn on free tibet. |
I've read plenty about Ghost, but have been unable to find anything in local shops... I've got the Michio colab with Boris, and I'd love to hear more.
Any blog hookups? |
uhh, couldn't find free tibet, found some dude posting two other albums, hypnotic underworld is the first one i got.

really loved in stormy nights

I have been a fan for many years; excellent group that has seen an incredible amount of evolution over time. I have seen them 4 or 5 times and two of those shows rank among the best I have ever seen.
LamaRabiRabi and Hypnotic Underworld are probably my favorites, but I love all their stuff and Batoh's solo work as well (not to mention all the collaborations Kurihara does). The drummer on Lamarabirabi is Yamazaki Iwao, who also played drums for my favorite band Overhang Party for many years. Amazing percussionist and a great guy. Also, if you can find the 7"s for Guru In The Echo/Moungod Air Cave and Holy High, I recommend those highly. The Kurihara solo in "Guru..." is searing; quite different from the later album version. Also, "Holy High" was drastically re-worked on Hypnotic Underworld to great effect, but the early 7" version is a baroque/folk masterpiece as well. |
Mr.Clone turned me on to this band and i just fell in love with them. Lama Rabi Rabi is my favorite. hypnotic underworld a close second. Great Band.
You would probably like Cosmic Invention too.Ask Mr.Clone . He knows. |
saw them at atp this year. while everyone else was watching battles on t'other stage. . . . oh we were ripped hard for missing an apparently 'amazing' show . . . but goddamn i wouldn't have changed that show for anything . . . i was fixated on kurihara . . . astonishing.

Thanks for those links.

I've been very much digging Snuffbox Immanence over the last week. Gets better with every listen.
Still that's all I've heard (except the Boris/Michio album)...I'll check the links, cheers. |
In Stormy Nights is stellar... the second long improv track is amazing with some blasting reverb thunder and awesome tremelo intense passage from Kurihara also there is a great cover of Cromagnon's Caledonia...
|
in stormy nights is one of my favorite albums of the year.
cosmic invention are also amazing, yes, good you mentioned them; white heaven too. even when they play their songs live, they sound different yet it's like a journey. |
ive got a cd-r from the yousendit group a while back.
Quite good. I think I lost it though. |
Thanks for the links, Neurotic... muchos gracias.

http://www.wormstation.nl:8880/wstre...host/ghost.mp3 it has a bit of that typically dry soundboard sound though. |
live album coming later this year on Drag City...
|
havent heard new album yet but hypnotic underworld was magnificent
|
yeah, good things forthcoming on drag city: ghost, sir richard bishop...
|
I helped them lift a grand piano onto a stage once.
That was pretty comical. |
i thought in stormy nights was a bit disappointing but maybe i should listen to it again... my faves are lama rabi rabi and hypnotic underworld.
|
I just got their self titled album. It's great, especially Guru in the Echo. They make me want to learn oboe and flute and violin.
