Any fans of Wax Poetics mag.
For those who haven't checked this magazine take a good look @ it. great in depth articles on all genres of music & it's all about wax. It also has a web site & downloads are sometimes available.

It's an expensive mag. A 1-Year subscription is $38. Baby! And a single issue is $7.99. Can I use a Borders discount coupon?

I have no clue. I agee it's a bit expensive but who says you have to buy it just to read it.
|
That's not all that expensive. The Wire is more, and even Ptolemaic Terrascope was more. Comparable to Wallpaper, which I'm more than happy to shell out for even though it's not a music mag and has tons of ads.
Thanks for the tip, DY. |
I need a job for this 'zine. I'm sure the quality's worth it [it has to be].
Does it have ads? |

Not many but all is quality, for sure. It's features all genres of music, it even cover NY 70's salsa scene & NY early Hip Hop club scene. One issue has a really good interview with Clancy Eccles & the other feature Too Short. I don't know if SY is in their older issues but I wouldn't doubt if something came up. I just started reading it about 5 months ago & I find it to be quality for those who can check it out, enjoy. |

i enjoy wax poetics quite a bit. probably the best periodical on soul music ever published. it's not just about soul... but that's the meat of it. the p-funk issue was tops, great interviews with the remaining living members of the original funkadelic. i don't believe sy has ever been in an issue, at least within the last 3 or so years that i've been familliar with it. wax poetics recently started a label- i think that their first slew of releases are gonnal be hip hop 12" singles... i can't remember who stands out, though. it has a similar vibe to Nature Sounds... or something. |
