Wow, this has probably been the first "RIP" thread I've cared about. That's just sad news, I hate to hear it.

It's sad that he'll never drum again on earth but the guy lived 83 years. Thats' some soild livin'. Sounds like he lived his life to the hilt and then moved on.
I saw him get down once outside at Columbia University back in....'01, '02?,'00? ....it was a duo gig with Cecil Taylor on piano. It was the summetime in the afternoon and both dudes were in dark suits. Roach and Taylor would trade these monster solos, jam together and then go back to taking turns solo'ing. Good jazz shows can feel like reading a book, this one felt like the book got lodged in my brain. |
