Will Oldham/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy/Palace Music
did a search and there didnt seem to be a thread about this bearded chap.
How does everyone feel? |
I'm listening to him right now.
I just got I See a Darkness last week and I love it, but I don't have anything else by him. I think I may have to go out and get some more of his stuff because this cd is brilliant. |
if you like I see a Darkness alot then youll get alot out of anything he's done.
|
I love Palace, and at least really like everything else he's done. Viva Lost Blues is an all time classic album in my listening life.
|
love him and he is very sadly overlooked i feel. he can say in one sentence what it takes me an hour to explain.
|
I only have Master and Everyone and Superwolf.
Need to get more for sure. Genius. |
This thread prompted me to listen to I see a darkness again (I love it). I don't know the other records well.
|
he has a massive back catalogue so you really are spoilt for choice.

I love him too, but I don't think he's overlooked in the slightest. He's enormously popular (a rare thing for someone so genuine in their art who continues to release indie recordings.) Hell, he got one of his songs done by and with Johnny Cash! |
I love BPB, been collecting his stuff for a while, anyway I can recommend:
Bonnie "Prince" Billy Ease Down The Road Bonnie "Prince" Billy Greatest Palace Music - For 'No More Workhorse Blue's 'alone, truely special! Bonnie "Prince" Billy The Letting Go - The latest and very good Palace Music Viva Last Blues Palace Brothers There Is No-One What Will Take Care Of You Anyway, it's all good! |
I See A Darkness is a superb album, but Viva Lost Blues is simply great. I don't always feel like playing his music, but when I do it generally feels like the perfect time for doing so, a bit like when a record is calling you from inside its sleeve and you need to listen to it in order to feel ok. I don't think he is overlooked either, he basks in the right amount of attention that gives him the chance to still sell enough records without having to prostitute himself.

there have been a few since 'ease down the road' . . . i think 'the letting go' is the newest, but 'master and everyone' aswell . .. which is just beautiful. there's some collab. stuff too like with tortoise doing covers . . . . but my favourites are definately 'darkness' 'ease' and 'm&e' . . . that's just the bonnie prince billy stuff . . . don't even get me started on the rest! |

Yeah, sorry, typed that next to the wrong one! I wasn't so into The Letting Go when it first came out, but saw him play it earlier this year and it was very very good. |

Yeah i dont know why people see him as overlooked in any way, i can imagine him having a Sonic Youth style tour doing I see a Darkness, its a bit of a cult thing but a big one, and the man on the street going "Bonnie what?" but he does have a significant fanbase. |

the end of No Bad News pisses me off, seems like the last meal being offered after the execution. |
