Post Yr Guitar tunings!

I've been playing around with these lately:

E Bb D F Bb E

E G# E F# G E

Both are pretty fun and neither are incredibly Sonic Youth like nor are they like DADGAD in which I just drone pretty chords with melodies all day.

Some old ones I've used:

CCCCCC (ostrich a step down, I use this to cover Within You Without You)

CADGBC double drop C. It sounds pretty.

EADGBE

It's amazing what you can do with it.
Of course, I jest; I only say this because when I try different tunings, I end up just trying to make the normal chords with them, so for me personally, it kinda gets me nowhere. But I've done cool things with the standard, so I'm happy with it.

any old tuning will work really. i write songs in about every tuning you can imagine, i just fuck around until it sounds how i want.

atsonicpark 09.12.2007 09:37 PM

hate to be the thread police, but I made this thread a few months ago "what is your guitar tuned to?" and it had tons of replies. Just sayin'... (some people seem to care about these things) (not sure if I do, but if you want to check that thread out, then there's a lot of people talking about their tunings)

afterthefact 09.12.2007 09:39 PM

Eh, so many people waste so much time on here (myself included), repeating threads doesn't hurt - it gives us something to do.

Yeah I know that there are old guitar tuning threads, I just didn't feel like looking for one and bumpin it.

k-krack 09.12.2007 09:47 PM

Bang on, tanky.
I just fuck around, basically every song is in a different (or, there's a couple in the same tuning) tuning, which is sometimes quite the bother... I need more guitars... But I'm not gonna bother posting many right now...

I've been fucking with GGEEBB

And two taped to the headstock (don't remember what songs they were for...) are: D#BCFA#E and GBEBCE

And one of my songs is in D#GDGDF

Sonic Youth 37 09.13.2007 12:13 AM

um, i'm trying to remember because I don't have my tuning sheet with me.

AAD#D#GG, I think. I tuned my LP copy to this. I like to hold the second A at the twelfth fret and play the open A with it so I get a drone octave step-like sound

Bicorn Halfelven 09.13.2007 12:15 AM

ZZZZZZ

king_buzzo 09.13.2007 01:39 AM

hellotwentyfifteen 09.13.2007 02:03 AM

a g c e a b

it sounds like every dream youve ever had. try it.

i also really like eedgbe. its a very small modification, and lots of pay off

same thing with eadgbb

This one sounds nice and dissonant, I can imagine.

The note relationships are based on this chord in standard:

x07567

so I move that formation down the neck so that the frets fretted highest up the neck are open strings and I get

X -7 0 -2 -1 0

So each string that is within a few steps I tune that many steps down. So tune the G down to F and the B down to Bb. I'm not going to tune the A down to D, so I look at the other notes I have in the chord and I see the Bb is pretty close. So I tune up to Bb, and keep the low E an E because there is already an E in the chord.

It isn't super dissonant sounding, but it is a tad.

That's my goal with tunings- nothing super dissonant or super consonant.

I make a weird chord in standard then try to make an open tuning to make that chord.

This:
F# B E A D F#

Then I broke to many strings, so Im down to this:
