I think the whole point is that he wasn't going anywhere. He was just 'on the road'.

Wasn't it about finding oneself in the midst of life? I think that is what I gather from the book.

I think he was less interested in 'finding himself' than finding his next drink.
Excellent book though.

I actually found it a chore to get through it. But I am not saying it is bad, there are much worse. However, it is not in my favorites.
