my problem with The Diamond Sea...
it's not long enough.
DISCUSS. |
This is true.
|
isn't the take on the DESTROYED ROOM a longer version?
|
not long enough
|
It is. I have a promo of it that has an edit version which is a much shorter than the one on the album. It basically fades out when the guitar madness comes in.

yeah, it's 25:48, and that's actually what I was listening to this morning. it's STILL not long enough. it's like a good book or movie that you just don't want to ever end. I fully intended to have it played at my funeral (when the day comes). Quote:
I have that too (the Diamond Sea [edit]), and I refuse to listen to it. I can see how some people might be turned off by it's length, but those people can FUCK THEMSELVES. |
the thing about it is one those pieces of music that seems like it could go in so many directions, I usually like my songs short and sweet but when the diamond sea ends it feels like it has so many more places to go.

The longest version is certainly the best, and one that you can imagine being streched for even longer onto one side of a whole album. Perhaps it would have been a cool thing for them to make Washing Machine the final track on the record and put The Diamond Sea out separately starting on one side of another record, play the sound of the band saying 'let's go for a tea and biscuits break' at the end of it, and then to re-start on the other side to finish it off. |

exactly! hence, my rare post in this subforum. myPod said 24:36 elapsed, and all I could think of was "NO!! keep doing that!!!". fucking short-ass Diamond Sea. |
there's some live versions that are (a bit) longer.
|
I'm rather pissed (and puzzled) that The Diamond Sea single/EP--which had the full-length version along with the edit and 'My Arena'--was never released on vinyl in the first place. Ditto for the version of the Little Trouble Girl single/EP which has the instrumental version of the title track and the SYR-worthy 'Terry's Carrot'. At least the complete 'Diamond Sea' found its way onto The Destroyed Room double album; 'Terry's Carrot' and the instrumental 'Little Trouble Girl" have never seen a vinyl release, period. That goes for a few other SY releases, while on the subject. (I smell another thread coming on...)

it could only go on longer if there was a bit more going on... |
The best thing they did in the 1990s.
|
what i don't get is that i thought why they didn't put the full version on the album
as it is the album tracks out to 68 minutes, it wasn't a space issue, unless they didn't want it to go too long , but that wouldn't make much sense |
As much has I like the Grateful Dead and their epic "Dark Star," "The Diamond Sea" blows it to pieces.
