Picastro - Whore Luck
Anyone else fans of this band? this new album is great.
never heard of them, to be honest.
I hadn't either until a week ago. Jamie Stewart guests on the album. It's sparce, sad acoustic music with string arrangements and a beautifully sad woman singing over it. It's wonderful.
sounds intriguing, should investigate.

I think I heard some melancholic song by them back in the days...they've been around for a few years, I suppose. Gotta check them out, as EN says, sounds intriguing.

agreed! they're a good band out of Toronto right up there along w/ Creeping Nobodies, just saw them the other night opening for Marissa Nadler, not sure if they are on tour with her but i've seen Picastro a few times and my old band opened for them a couple of years ago though we didn't fit the bill because we were much louder and more upbeat and at that time i just thought they were ok... Lyz Hisen (the singer/guitarist) to me is has a great voice somewhere between early Chan Marshall and Mira Billotte (of White Magic) and like her guitar sound (i believe its detuned because it has some nice low end) this time around they sounded really good live so i picked up the Whore Luck cd which is quite good probably there best album so far (this is their 3rd i believe) and a nice companion w/ the new Thurston Moore album...

I almost saw Marissa Nadler. I had only heard of her three days before she came to town so I didn't go. I really like her voice though.
i need to check this out.
