Are you unpatriotic if you criticize your government???

or is it patriotic to criticize and create a solution?

nature scene 09.26.2007 04:19 PM

well, I'm not, but you might be.

Hip Priest 09.26.2007 05:10 PM

I'm patriotic, and I consider it my duty as a patriot to criticise the Labourist liars that infest our land. There are large sections of our government, and some of their supporters, for whom I can feel no trust.

I'm certainly not unpatriotic. Nor is Ian Hislop, to name a prime critic. Nor were people such as John Bright and Oliver Cromwell, or Emmeline Pankhurst or any number of other great dissenters. Aung San Suu Kyi certainly isn't unpatriotic, just as Nelson Mandela wasn't unpatriotic.

When government is bad, silence and acquiescence are unpatriotic.

val-holla-ing 09.26.2007 05:23 PM

i think criticizing the government is one of the most patriotic things one can do.

Of course, you're unpatriotic. You're not one of us yet? Your metamorphosis into a simple pod void of distinctions and rationale is not complete. Moderator please forward all infomation pertaining to a cryptowonderdruginvogue to the proper federal authoratie immediately.

This country was born out of revolt and dissent, what's more disrespectful to the history of this country's birth, then to bend over and take when you feel the country is being lead by morons. Nothing makes me more proud then to see groups of young people protesting during these Democratic/Republican conventions. It draws media attention, does it change much? These days its hard to say, but every freedom we've ever gained from national independance to the "Civil Rights" period was won through protest and dissent against what was law.

ThePits 09.26.2007 07:33 PM

You are patriotic if you live in and criticise constructively a democracy
If you don't vote you have no right to criticise other than your human right to flap your jaw

drrrtyboots 09.26.2007 08:20 PM

You're a Texan so the answer is obviously no.

pbradley 09.26.2007 09:27 PM

I'm unpatriotic because I neither want to save this mess nor preserve the status quo. The last ten years have left me feeling that this aristocracy doesn't deserve my patriotism.

jon boy 09.27.2007 05:44 AM

i am not patriotic in any way shape or form. i am not really that proud of my countries history and i certainly dont wave a flag or anyting like that.

i laughed at the choices in the great britons show years ago, winston churchill, oliver cromwell, margaret thatcher etc.

i think its only natural and healthy to question leadrership.

I used to think that you might be even a likable character. Now I just think of you as an argumentative, contrary idiot.

Speaking of which, I wonder what leatherfuck is doing.
