The Old Blue Last, London - a question
Sunburned Hand of the Man have a date at The Old Blue Last as part of their Euro tour, on 3rd November. I vaguely remember The Old Blue last getting a mild slagging a while back for being a Hoxtonites' paradise. If I went to see SBHOTM there, would I be likely to end up so pissed off at the crowd that it would spoil my enjoyment of the show? I'm thinking particularly about chatterboxes.

I have been to some gigs in there that were full of people from the NME and their ilk, but the bands play upstairs and it is a very tiny venue, so I suppose you would have your assortment of gig goers with the gift of the gab, as well as those who go there exclusively for the music. The Old Blue Last itself isn't that bad a pub, it's just the sort of crowd that you have to put up with because of its location etc. There are friendly people in there too, but yes, it does have a certain reputation.
Edit - If you are there for the band, don't bother about the people who are there to be seen. |
I think I'd rather see Sunburned in a pub than in a night-clubby looking place like The Scala, so I'll risk The Old Blue Last.

I think that you might even enjoy the actual pub downstairs, regardless of the scenesters. I have been there with a couple of people who post on here and they seemed like they enjoyed it. The gigs are played upstairs.

i remember when we played there, and c list wannabe celebs like the guitarist from the rakes and har mar superstar came along,

A black lady stopped her car at the traffic lights yesterday while I was crossing the road and asked me if it was the road that she thought it was. She had a very sweet appearance and as I was about to cross the road we smiled at each other. True story.
