don't worry, it hates you right back. why is the creative manipulation of the english language seen as such a negative thing? the same principle could easily be applied to the manipulation of sounds that sonic youth do, but you don't hate what they did to the glory that was once rock and roll, do you? |
"Creative manipulation" is one thing.
An entire generation of people who sound like marble-mouthed morons is another thing entirely. There is evolution and there is devolution. Different versions of slang and variations of what "the kids today talk like" will always exist, but does it have to get so DUMB? I mean, beatnik slang is every bit as indeciperable, but it doesn't make me feel like I'm losing IQ points when I hear it. |
(Both my comments are meant to be taken with a fair amount of non-seriousness, by the way. I'm really not as upset as all that)
|
the same could be said about noise.
just wondering, do you say the same thing about the jamaican patois? (sorry if i get defensive, but i hear that a bit too often for comfort) |
Understood.
Jamaican patois is annoying to me if it's affected by someone who isn't from Jamaica (just as ebonics being adopted by white teens in rural and suburban areas bugs me in a similar way) , but it's a dialect like anything else. You will sound like people sound where you grew up. No big deal. In fact, the only time any of this really gets on my nerves is when it's spelled out in print like it sounds verbally. That is the most destructive and annoying part of the whole thing to me, and it's just as annoying when it's Jamaican patois as it is when it's urban American patois. |

see? even me and swizzle agree on this. |
Ebonics rule so much.
|
don't say that to le clone de savage. he'll say that those folks butcher the english language....tee hee.
|
haha.
|
Ebonics is the new Latin, man.
|
ebonics is a bullshit term. They called it "jive" in the 70's. It is actually a derogatory term used to differentiate "those crazy negroes"
it is just slang English most of it wil disappear or get replaced by newer slang and only a small bit of it will make it's way into the general american english. |
