Right Side vs Left Side of the Brain

THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...81-661,00.html

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science

safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

The very first time I saw this, it was spinning counter-clockwise. I managed to change it, and ever since then, whenever I see it posted somewhere, it spins clockwise for me, and it doesn't spin counter-clockwise unless I try to change it.

k-krack 10.14.2007 01:26 PM

It keeps changing every time I look at it.

pantophobia 10.14.2007 01:29 PM

it's a very weird mental test, i see it primarily spinning clockwise from once i first saw it, but as i adjusted the way i looked at it it spun the opposite direction,

i have read another forum where a lot people thought it was fake and the gif was purposely changing direction every other rotation, but i checked it, and if you let it run in quicktime, you can see it's only moving in one direction the whole time

Moshe 10.14.2007 01:33 PM

i see it only spinning clockwise.

luxinterior 10.14.2007 01:39 PM

It's easy to change it if you just concentrate on the shadow of her foot.

Everyneurotic 10.14.2007 01:44 PM

clockwise, what a big surprise.

ps: i can see her nipples.

!@#$%! 10.14.2007 01:45 PM

this is funny, when i first saw it i had been playing a strategy game (left-brain) and so it was going counterclockwise. after i read i made it go the other way and it was stuck that way. now it's random when i look at it it goes one way or another-- clockwise first but i think about it & it goe the other way.

High five!! thsi really works! you spared me insanity.

pbradley 10.14.2007 01:52 PM

initially clockwise

then, with luxinterior's suggestion, I was able to reverse it and it was stuck that way until I focused on the shadow again

!@#$%! 10.14.2007 01:53 PM

strange, when i focus on the foot i can't change a thing-- i can only do the change "without thinking"-- actually it's flipping almost out of control ha ha ha

pbradley 10.14.2007 01:56 PM

your brain is fighting itself for control (I wonder if reading this suggestion makes it turn clockwise).

fighting itself?

no i think the brain just flips back & forth between the analytical & intuitive mode-- in my case anyway.

i bet you if you look form the corner of your eye it will most likely go clockwise, whereas if you start "thinking about it" ti will go counter.

pbradley 10.14.2007 02:04 PM

Yeah, that wasn't suppose to be a factual claim but an abstract imaginery.

Which is why the parenthesis are there.

nicfit 10.14.2007 02:08 PM

ha ha I can make her spin once clockwise, once counterclockwise, it's fun! going out now, don't melt your brains, boys. And yesss, there's a nipple.

pbradley 10.14.2007 02:14 PM

Now if only I could recognize this as the two dimensional, mutating blob of black that it is.

Interesting how I have to look off the image to switch perception.

Green_mind 10.14.2007 02:23 PM

If you succeed with luxinterior's suggestion, when you manage to change the apparent direction of the illusion you may notice that if you place your fingers under your nose, your breathing will alternate from one nostril to the other.

By the way, who made this and which way did they make it to spin?

Well it isn't really spinning, now is it. Since there is no detail in the black unformity of the woman, there's really no point of reference either way.

I bet if you were to see snapshots of each partial movement, you will see that it isn't an object spinning but a black spot folding in and out. Don't take the illusion of depth as depth itself. You are viewing her on a two-dimenional screen.

Anngella 10.14.2007 03:06 PM

It keeps changing for me if I look to the right. The first time I saw it it was going counterclockwise but then I changed it and when I first looked at it this time it was going clockwise.
