Is there a way.........

............to get videos from Youtube onto my iPod?

atari 2600 10.15.2007 04:40 PM

yes

Download the youtube flv file using www.keepvid.com.

Convert the flv to avi.
(I got my converter from a free torrent app download;
it's called "FLV to AVI Converter" and is published by ZZZ Technologies, Inc.)

At this point, I just burn the avi files to a vcd, but since you are trying to put this on an iPod, you'll have to make another conversion.

Further convert the avi to mov (quicktime) with some other converter...you're kind of on your own here.
(I don't know of any user-friendly converters that are readily available for free that will change flv to mov in one go.)

Also, being ignorant of iPods (although I have several Macs as well as a PC), I don't know if they will just play avi or not; I'm guessing that the answer is no, they won't, hence the need to convert a second time to an iPod-friendly format (.mov).

atari 2600 10.15.2007 04:49 PM

oh, great, thanks :)

atari 2600 10.15.2007 04:52 PM

looks like loads of fun:rolleyes:

screamingskull 10.15.2007 04:53 PM

ha ha ha, i might just pay a nerd at uni to do it for me.

atari 2600 10.15.2007 04:58 PM

That's probably not a bad idea. And they might do it for free just to have you hanging around if you're lucky.

super video converter by eRight soft is free (well, should still be) and when converting files you can choose the "output container". there's also Ipod in the list, so I guess it could convert the flv file in one go with some sort of "preset" already, ehm, set. There are a bunch of settings to mess with, but it's pretty intuitive.

Here's a program you'll find very useful for that^.

ffmpegX for MacOSX only

It converts almost anything (not .flv though). Very user friendly and free. Read the info about the binaries carefully before installing it.

As for converting .flv to .mov - As far as I know, they're not compatible. Different frame rates, codecs etc.
You'll have to convert it in two steps (.flv > .avi > .mov/3gp)

nicfit 10.16.2007 05:42 AM

doesn't ipod work with mp4 files too (H.264/AVC)? If so, superconverter can do flv-> mp4 in just one step.
Actually it just worked also converting flv -> mov in one step  is this thing really "super" ha ha ???
I'm no expert at all, so I dunno about the "tech issues" behind those conversions, but it seems to work pretty good.

Tokolosh 10.16.2007 05:45 AM

That's the first time I 've heard of it. Will check that superconverter thingy out. Thanks nicfit.

Um... Is it the FreewareWIKI SuperConverter?

nicfit 10.16.2007 05:50 AM

http://www.erightsoft.info/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
download link, the official page http://www.erightsoft.com/home.html
is confusing and messy and time consuming (you have to browse a bunch of pages before getting to the actual download link) to make you look at ads and stuff :D

Tokolosh 10.16.2007 05:52 AM

Thanks again.

nicfit 10.16.2007 05:56 AM

well, if that link redirects you to the starting page for SUPER, you still have to browse through some pages, if you don't want to read all that jsut go to the end of the first page, click on "start downloading SUPER" , in the second page click "download and use" and in the third (and last) page go to the bottom of the page and there's the download link (yeah!).

Tokolosh 10.16.2007 06:06 AM

Here's the one I found before you posted that link. Worth checking maybe?

screamingskull. You should be able to put these straight onto your iPod if you haven't already. Just a thought. :)

ZEROpumpkins 10.16.2007 06:34 AM

The amount of time wasted doing complex things, knowing that if I were a cute girl I'd have a line of eager helpers to ease the strain. The female of the species really is a wonderous thing. Anyway, back to downloading nip slips of z list celebs I suppose. Grunt Grunt.
