Soundtrack to a mid 30s tantrum please
feeling particularly fed up and hard done by at the moment. want to put on something that mirrors my mood but meh, i don't really have anything. Anything you can recommend a poor misunderstood soul, or rely on yourself when in one of those 'shit, fuck, bum, bollocks' mindsets?

Action Swingers
Fushitsusha Teenage Jesus And The Jerks Suicide Diamanda Galas |
Atari Teenage Riot (Just as good for stroppy adults as it is for stroppy teenagers)
|
Dust off your copy of Paul's Boutique. Get fabulous.

Listen to The Velvet Underground's 'Sister Ray'. It's a very therapeutic song, if you are the calm type who's going through a certain mood. It's one of the few songs I know that sounds like a band having a fight while they're playing, which is exactly what that song is. Everyone being pissed off with each other (apart from sweet Mother Tucker) and trying to play louder than the others.
|
I thought that as well, but while it does very well in the abrasiveness stakes, it's a little too slow for my bad moods. My bad moods need aggressive.
|
In light of what sonicl said, Napalm Death? Black Flag?
|
Butthole Surfers' "Human Cannonball" is another that does well for me.

But it does get faster and chaotic by the end of it, doesn't it?
|
I can't remember, it's a long time since I've listened to it.
|
What about some Fall records?
Isn't The Fall pure "well, just fuck it" ? |
I second the choice of Butthole Surfers song. Played really loud it works wonders. I used to play the Jesus And Mary Chain's 'Taste The Floor' a lot too.

I notice that everyone posting in this thread neglected to notice the thread-starter said "mid-30s".
Thus: Chris Rea - Road to Hell u2 - Vertigo Pearl Jam's entire back catalogue. Bob Dylan - Like a rolling stone The Corrs - Breathless Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive Dido - Thank you Etc. |
Thanks for those so far. Some on-point suggestions (although Ocean Drive struck me as a bit of an, erm, 'eccentric' one).
As apt as the Action Swingers may be ('Kicked in the Head', for sure) I tend to listen to them all the bloody time, whatever my mood - which is usually nauseatingly calm. Sister Ray though, definitely. No question. |
The Golden Palominos feat. John Lydon - The Animal Speaks
(side 1 closer) a cover of a The Numbers Band (Robert Kidney) song also The Golden Palominos feat. Arto Lindsay - Only One Party (side 2 closer) both appear on: The Golden Palominos - Visions of Excess (1985) |
I do believe i've found it, tucked away in some dusty corner of my iTunes: Van Der Graaf Generator's 'Lemmings'.

The song "Miserable Life" should take on extra meaning, maybe. |
You should listen to Vanilla's "No Way No Way" - guaranteed to calm enraged geezers. Or maybe enrage them more.
