"Neil Young - Chrome Dreams II" review by Pitchfork
|
I read a review about this only just yesterday and got a copy. Didn't read this one though...
holy hell, a 5.6! um, "Ordinary People" (the 18-minute track) on Chrome Dreams II was recorded in '88 with the Bluenotes. You can hear a stream of it http://mog.com/Michael_Goldberg/blog_post/117123 |
"After his brush with death in 2005, one might have expected the singer-songwriter to slow down, or at least write a bunch of grim songs about mortality-- this is, after all, the guy who was singing about getting old when he was 24. But instead, Young has sped up his work rate and zagged at every opportunity, quick-fire releasing the ambitious Nashville throwback Prairie Wind and the hurried, furious Living With War."
Wow, this guy has clearly never sat down and listened to Prarie Wind. Just because it's not grim, doesn't mean it's not an album about mortality. Throwback....ambitious? |
"The Painter" from Prairie Wind is my favorite song of 2005 by any artist.
|
Yes, it's wonderful. Prarie Wind is one of my favorite recent records too.
|
I saw him live last night and the few songs he played from the new album were pretty good actually. The new songs he played were pretty similar to his Ragged Glory era.

Bought this today, only heard good things about it so far. Looking forward to listening after enjoying Living With War
