think I figured it out

(that is G-D-G-D G-A-G (I think there is another note in here) D# G)

the whole melody seems a bit out of tune for me, so purposefully playing the riff out of tune or using a guitar pedal to put it out of tune seems practical.

For the verse I'm just playing a G5 and whatever chord is D#-G-D is. I think that is a D# maj 7 with the 5th removed.

Are we talking about the same thing?

D#-G-D isn't a chord, but then again, G5 isn't really a chord either. The simplest way to express this D#-G-D thing would just be (0,1,5). Maybe not the best way depending on context, but

that first F# should be a maj 7th up -F- and there's an E b/tw the G and the D.
the rest is spot on.

thanks guys. . . I knew I was a bit off. I heard the 5th, then that 3rd at the end. The middle part is what tripped me up.
