Nick Cave
The Australian music industry may be ready to embrace Nick Cave with an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame this weekend, but the iconic musician isn't returning the love.
The 50-year-old singer will attend the ARIA Awards ceremony on October 28 where he will join some of Australia's best known and loved performers in the Hall of Fame. But he will be a reluctant participant. "I'm actually dreading it to be completely honest because I have to go to the ARIA Awards," Cave said. "That's something I've been avoiding for 25 years because I think it's so f...ing tedious. "But I think I'm allowed to come in the back door, get inducted - however they're going to induct me - and leave and go and get a kebab." Cave denied reports that the ARIA board had been offering him a spot in the hall of fame for up to six years and he had repeatedly declined. "No, I've never been asked actually," he said. "They just asked me this year and I said 'yeah'." The prolific songwriter left Australia in 1980 and now lives in Brighton in the south of England. He is back in the country touring with his new band, Grinderman, made up of members of his other group The Bad Seeds. But asked whether he was keen to catch up with any of his contemporaries at the ARIA Awards, Cave responded dryly: "Yes, I'm desperately excited, I'm extremely excited to hang out with Powderfinger." |
I only really like do you love me, other than that it is hard for me to get into him. But I want to give him a try.

That actually made me "LOL". What a character. |
Sounds similar to when he was nominated for soem MTV award a few years back and he asked to be removed from the noominations on the basis that it would "upset his muse".
Anyway, my favourite is "The Boatmans Call". |
a wonderful way to experience some bad seeds albums is a road trip through the australian out back.

It's probably a good idea to leave "Murder Ballads" off the playlist if you're doing that though. You might get a bit paranoid otherwise :)

Tender Prey's all I have! Besides The Birthday Party's Junk Yard.
|
The Firstborn is Dead is my jam.
|
junkyard.

Off the few ones I know The good son.

I gave a good listen to Your Funeral... My Trial yesterday and it's a, dare I say, great album. It was a gloomy, rainy day, so that was nice too.
Been listening to alot of No More Shall We Part alot lately too. Greatly underrated album. |
To be honest, it took me much longer than normal to truly appreciate Tender Prey. I always preferred Firstborn, Eternity, Funeral, the Good Son, etc. For some reason Tender Prey just didn't grab me all the way through. Of course now I do not know why this was, as it is fucking fantastic. I had always felt like I was missing something. I don't know how things changed. Whatever. Much love for Nick Cave. My art teachers think it's hilarious, my love for him. I don't even talk about it hardly ever, they just always bring it up, because it amuses them or something. They really like him too.

I saw Grinderman/Nick on the weekend. It was fantastic. It was in Sydney, two hours or so from my hometown, and I walked past him a few times on the street in awe, wanting to say something, but also not wanting to bother him. I chose the latter. He is one fucking cool, dude, though. Coat over his shoulder, his elegant - charismatic walk, decked out in an expensive suit. Even in Newtown he got looks. Grinderman was great, mesmerising. I gathered when it said "solo" that Nick was going to be on the piano, obviously solo, but the rest of the guys from Grinderman came out and played a set of Bad Seeds songs. Which was different, had a fairly different take on the song, very stripped back. It was a great night and weekend.

During an appearance on the late-night talk/variety show Late Night with Conan O'Brien on October 5, 2007 Snoop Dogg said that he is a fan of the song, noting he is a fan of a song on Nick Cave's album, Grinderman, however "I can't say the name on the air."
No Pussy Blues that is. Thought it was funny and interesting to read.. Snoop probably listens to lots of different music |
grinderman should be in that poll....;
|
grinderman is ace. I haven't listened to any of his other music... yet

I love the man, but his first novel was a bloated attempt at writing a southern gothic. This new one sounds a bit more promising: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azAP-Ouvkss
