Songs for your alarm clock.

Now I've always been interested in the psychological influences of music. Alarm clocks, I find, are deeply psychological for obvious reasons. Thus, I like to play around with which songs I wake to in order to see how in influences my mentality during the day.

songs I've set my alarm to in the past:

Boredoms - Super Going
This one I enjoyed for a while mostly because of the location at the time. It was the beginning of my sophomore year here at USF and my dorm was located on a high hill that overlooks most of western san francisco with little obstruction. Also given that I was in a spacious, all white room with no dormmate, the song had an eerily sterile sheen to it.

Hüsker Dü - The Tooth Fairy And The Princess
The idea of the backwards guitar and echos of "get up" and "don't get up" was just too cool to not try. Enjoyed it for a while until an increasing sense of schizophrenia made me switch it out.

Yo La Tengo - Little Eyes
A perfectly sleep waking tune with a beeping intro that makes it feel like the song was made for waking to. Kept that one for a while. Sometimes I would find myself too relaxed and just fall back to sleep.

Lightning Bolt - Hello Morning
A song that just oozes with morning reverb. However, the ever so slight feedback at the beginning was enough to put me on edge. I'm an extremely light sleeper.

Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot
The one I have now. A kind of obvious choice but the dreamy opening chords are just right and if I drift the rest of the song kicks to wake me up.

You all?

Chariots of Fire is the best alarm song. Nothing gets you pumped for the day like that.

Good thread!

I currently have Refused - Summerholidays vs. Punk Routine set as my alarm. It motivates me to get up and do something, especially with the guitar riff and the opening lyrics

I'm tired of losing myself
To some stupid childhood dream of what I could have been
Money proves the point
And I'm stuck between summer holidays and punk routine
I shoot off a hundred things to remain more sorry than safe, you see
I only get this fucking chance once and I just can't let it be

I could never get my stereo's alarm to work. But the year before last (2005) I used to listen to Brian Eno's Ambient 4: On Land immediately after waking up. Whenever I left the shower my room would always sound like it was filled with chirping crickets.

Music I don't wake up to anymore. I sleep late and I prefer to wake up naturally. No interference.

Lame.

Um...

I have an ipod alarm clock thing. I change it every day. I like waking up to Parenthetical Girl's glockenspiel.

Uh.. well, I have my alarm clock set to a Christian radio station.. it's very loud and annoying and all the songs are overproduced with about 100 people screaming about God, so it gets me up every time.

Also, regarding "Super going" by Boredoms: my favorite song of all time. Closest thing to a musical orgasm possible.

It's transcendent with morning rays of sun.

I'd never choose a song I like as an alarm clock because I'd rapidly end up hating it.
