Do You Feel Disillusioned?

I have been for a while disillusioned with the gay community, I hardly feel any connection. I sometimes question myself if I am really a poof, but I know this to be true. Every gay person I ever met has always annoyed me a bit, maybe this is the antisocial in me, since I always feel like this about people. Or maybe I am still trying to accept myself, whatever. To make the long story short and not to bore you with it, do you feel disillusioned with anything in your life?

sonicl 11.07.2007 02:12 AM

Oh, God, yeah. On weekdays from 9 'til 5, disillusionment is my constant companion.

jon boy 11.07.2007 05:18 AM

sure i get disillusioned all the time but the trick is to not let it get to you and find something that you can feel content with.

i think most people do feel let down by things in their life but that also means that you are changing and becoming more wise and tastes/feelings change with age.

ZEROpumpkins 11.07.2007 05:39 AM

I'm a bit disillusioned with rock music at the moment.

_slavo_ 11.07.2007 06:10 AM

Why 90% of your threads are gay-related, synth?

Not that I have anything against that, you're a sound bloke, I'm just curious.

As for topic - no, I'm not dissilusioned. I've been quite well-balanced and satisfied with how things are turning out, lately.

jon boy 11.07.2007 06:14 AM

i am not so much dissilutioned as broken, twisted and psychotic on a daily basis.

No homerpalooza quote in this thread yet?
I think I'm a bit disillusioned, but I'm not sure I'm giving this word the right meaning.

i'm disillusioned with the halloween party i went to last thursday, they ran out of vodka at about midnight, the place was raided at about 1 a.m., they didn't give me my money back and i didn't get the chance to talk to that really cute girl with the policewoman costume.

floatingslowly 11.07.2007 09:46 AM

disillusioned implies that you have previously believed in an illusion.

how does one go about getting a shiney-happy-dream-world so that they can move on toward disillusionment?

now that is grounds for true sorrow.

I previously believed in the illusion that was Catholicism, since that was how I was raised. Then I started to think for myself. So I would say that being disillusioned is a good thing.

Everyneurotic 11.07.2007 10:01 AM

tell me about it!! and it's the first time i've seen, let alone been at, a party that gets shut down by the cops!!

i definitely believed in the illusion of that costume, and i'm not that into the cop fantasy anyway; but then again, that illusion was complemented with the very pleasant reality of her being (my poetic way of saying that she was hot regardless of the costume).

nothing personal, but could you be projecting some self-loathing onto other people who are like you? That happens sometimes, even in the most superficial sense.

I become disillusioned with rock music, but then thurston releases a beautiful solo record and I get my sonic hard-on back.

hope i used it right now. hmmmmm

If disillusioned means "single" I think I'm disillusioned too :D.
No, seriously, as someone else said I stopped having a "illusory" or "romantic" pov on things/life pretty soon in my life. Guess my grandpas' deaths mark the turning point (around 9 yo methinks), but I never was that "illusioned" either.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 11.07.2007 12:29 PM

For the most part, No.

gmku 11.07.2007 02:40 PM

Only when I'm not delusional. As long as most of my existence is buoyed by grand delusions of one kind or another, I'm okay. When they start collapsing, I see through illusions. So yes and no.

At the moment, I think I'm a bit disillusioned about the value of my old career (prior to becoming a freelancer). It feels like I made no difference at all. Former coworkers have virtually forgotten about me, and everything I did for at least the past 8 years seems to have vanished like dust in the wind.

At least now I can work and make no difference all by myself instead of sharing it with cubicle pod people.

I'm also extremely disillusioned about my wardrobe! My God, what was I thinking when I bought (and wore!) those things. I'm cleaning out my closet today and filling up bags for Goodwill.

My basic wardrobe now is black T-shirts, properly fitting longsleeve shirts, and jeans. I also now own a respectable belt for jeans (one that's made for jeans, big and thick, ya know?) instead of some wimpy Eddie Bauer thing. I now also own a corduroy sport coat that fits trim and looks good with tighter jeans. And I've gotten over my fear of accessories--wife bought me some leather and hemp bracelets and I'm going for it!

No more:

Polo shirts
Pastel colors
Khakis
Cargo pants
Oversized Ts
Oversized longsleeve shirts (I'm an L, dammit, what are all these XLs doing in my closet!)
Button down collars--I don't see the point! A collar should be free to be itself, a collar, not buttoned down to the shirt. And no, it's wrong to wear a buttoned collar unbuttoned.
Blazers a size to big!
