The Ghastly Ones
iv just gotten into them, anyone else listen to them?
its pretty rad stuff zombies and frankenstein surfing..its a fun image |
so noones into them?
|
Are they on Creation Records?
|
They're okay, I've been into them a few years, I have "Target Draculon", "Ghastly Ones of Film Land", and "A-Haunting We Will Go-Go"... I listened to them all the way to Michigan and back last year, actually... honestly, since 40% of the stuff I listen to is surf, it doesn't strike me as anything too amazing, but it's pretty good. They're just not terribly good songwriters. The samples of them dicking around are pretty funny though, "OH IT'S THE SCARY MANSION BY THE HILLLLLLLLLLLLL." *tremolo picking starts*
I'd reccomend Gein and the Graverobbers if you want horror surf. If you want innovative modern surf, look up the Wipeouters, Treblemakers (two guitars and a keyboard!), or the Mermen. Also, check out the AMAZING Strummin' M ental and Lost Legends of Surf Guitar series. |
im not always after something epic, i think they are a pretty fun band and yeh i get what i want from them
but thanks for recommending those other bands ill check them out and to answer u porky i dont think they are on creation records |
...you do know man or astroman right? Probably my all time favorite surf band.
|
no i dont, i havnt really looked into surf tunes
i was sitting at my friends house the other night and heard some TGO and thought it was really neat so yeh now im looking into it and loving it to biiiiiiits so please do share all you have |
Man Or Astroman are an indie surf band, not a surf band.
|
...and?
It's still surf music in general, who cares? We're clearly talking about surf rock in this thread, I think people are educated enough to know I'm not talking about the Beach Boys type stuff. |
When it comes to garage surf dementia, there can only be one:

And indie surf rock is not the same as surf rock. Oh, and please, The Beach Boys are not even a completely surf band at all. If you want to play the obscure bands game, I'm here to educate you on just about another 100 bands that would spring to mind when you think about surf rock. And this without even mentioning Dick Dale, who has much more of a right to be called surf rock than the Beach Boys. |

im loving these tunes so much, thanks atsonic for recommending me gein and astroman so good, i wish i could go drive a car with blue screen backgrounds |
oh, you want more reccomendations?
crimson ghosts (misfits songs as surf songs) the ventures (not strictly a surf band but "surfing" is one of my favorite albums ever) dick dales and his deltones phantom surfers mala agula red elvises (not strictly a surf band) trashmen los straightjackets stuff like that is really good. i'm drawing blanks right now actually, but man or astroman is my favorite. |
does someone want to help me find some videos of old school movies where they drive with fake scenary in blak and white
|
atsonic..do u know any good sites that have tabs to anyof these tunes
|
I like 'em but don't love 'em. I agree that Gein & The Graverobbers is a better band.
Hmm...might try Messer Chups, if you're looking for newer surf stuff. |
i saw the red elvises play a bar in key west once, they were hilarious. that ginormous bass they have is awesome.
|
oh yeah! messer chups! they're a really weird band that usually starts surfy and piles on weird noises...
alien, i'd just type in "surf tabs". i like playing dick dale songs on guitar. fun. |
