Sonic Youth references in new movie "Juno"
In the new movie Juno there are not one but two references to the great noise idols. The first comes early on when a failed rock'n'roller plays his favorite song, the "Superstar" cover, for half a minute or so. Then later when the title character, a Ghost World-ish teen, has a falling-out with the rocker, she wounds him with this gem: "Oh yeah, I bought another Sonic Youth album and it sucked! It's just noise!" The hipster kids in the Union Square audience seemed to get a good chuckle out of that one. I don't know when this one is actually getting a theatrical run, but it wasn't bad. A little bit dimestore Terry Zwigoff, but they tried.
