i think i'd trust thurston & co's recollection of the events over this dude's. just sayin'.

this should have been released last month. I think it's available now but not been able to pick it up yet.
rob young used to edit wire magazine and knows his onions. |
but of the two books, i'd rather read the accounts of people who may have been there over anyone elses.

Isn't the Thurston book largely a photo book though? It's just photo's and interviews or something isn't it? I'd rather a bit of meat...a large slab of factual information to chew on. Ideally, I'd like both, and the souljazz one, to get a broad overview but I haven't got that sort of cash.

I bought this while in London, just over halfway through it and it has a LOT of firsthand information from James Chance, Lydia Lunch and pretty much all of the musicians involved with the scene. One criticism is that it perhaps focuses too much on the No New York LP and those bands. Towards the end of the book there is stuff about Sonic Youth as well with some choice pics and interview. I think it's a great book, really looking forward to the Moore/Coley volume as well..
