speaking of which, anybody knows what's the deal with the death is this communion vinyl? does anybody have it or has seen it?

it was up for preorder but then, when the cd was released, every trace of the vinyl disappeared from the website.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 12.31.2007 02:13 AM

No.

We had a few copies in my local record store, but heard reports it was a bad pressing. Someone said the grooves where too close together...

Norma J 12.31.2007 09:00 PM

Another joke overdub, right?

that could explain it but why won't they come out and "sorry, it got fucked; will let you know when the corrected pressing will ship (or) there won't be a vinyl pressing because it got fucked, here's your money".

i'll be emailing them.

At least they pulled it. Radiohead released that one ep with a bad pressing and just kept selling it without fixing it at all.

My copy of Spiritualized's "Ladies And Gentlemen..." is pretty much unplayable in a few spots. The needle simply will not stay in the grooves, and skates across the record.
Nice.
I took it to a signing on that tour, and they were apparently aware of the problem because Jason immediately asked me "Does this play?"
I always wonder why these issues aren't resolved at the test pressing stage, but there's probably something logistical that I don't know about.

atari 2600 01.01.2008 03:42 PM

Jeez Louise, this is crap.

SuchFriends made a point about Black Sabbath the other day and boy does it apply here.

Also, I read in another thread that sarramkrop is anxiously awaiting the new one from Meshuggah.

Oi Vey!

Now I realize that not everyone is going to have the same taste as me, but man, there sure are a lot of people here (recent threads about Metallica and Pantera) into redneck music. Because that's what this is. I've known tens of countryfolk that play this exact same type of headbanging tripe. Talk about being lost in a fucking time warp!

Oh well.

Savage Clone 01.01.2008 03:47 PM

High On Fire are extremely good live.
I do not consider this to be "redneck music" in the least. It's certainly a far cry from fucking Pantera. Pike's former bandmates from Sleep formed Om, which is pretty damn expansive and cerebral to my ears, and Pike's lyric-writing style is a highly unique form consisting of quick flashes of apocalyptic imagery, often dispensing with standard verse/chorus/hook formula.
Just because it's metal and the guy sweats like crazy and doesn't wear a shirt doesn't automatically mean it's stupid.

atari 2600 01.01.2008 03:55 PM

Oh but I thought you condemned mid-seventies Robert Plant, Savage.

Hey, I know Pike's Sleeper stoner rock incarnation too, and I think that's crap as well.

The "Best Rock Band in the World"
???
That's a laugh.

Savage Clone 01.01.2008 03:59 PM

I didn't know we were talking about Robert Plant.
Yes, his vocal style ruins a lot of Zeppelin for me. A LOT. But in many cases I can get past it and enjoy some of their stuff a lot.
Just not "You Shook Me."
However, to be fair, Pike's voice was definitely the biggest hurdle for me with High On Fire as well. Goes for most of that kind of music.

Edit:
You night not like Om either (their pieces are very long and repetitive with intricate and fairly "epic" lyrical themes), but there is no Pike guitar or voice, and the style is quite different. I like your chances better there, at least.

atari 2600 01.01.2008 04:05 PM

I was just having a laugh because of the "sweaty & shirtless" thing, excuse me.
