That's odd

My musics been starting to sound like Shoegaze lately, but my big influences right now are anything but, and I've been a lot more conservative in my use of effects.

Shrug. I think a big reason for it is that I usually play by myself so I end up creating dense walls of sound.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.10.2008 05:26 PM

Nothing wrong with that.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.10.2008 05:35 PM

Centipedes in your vagina huh?

Nothing wrong with it. It is just interesting that sometimes I find myself going in musical circles.

I was playing a song today that I just wrote and the chord progression sounded very strikingly MBV-like to me, but the structure of it and the vocal melodies made it sound like the bands I'm more intent on ripping off.

My style changes so much it's iritating. Makes it hard to work on long projects. Makes it even harder to be in a band.

schizo rock, the wave of the future.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.10.2008 05:39 PM

I think I'm starting to "get it." I used to look as guitars as all interchangeable but now I'm starting to really learn how to let their own voices show through.

Currently every song I play I have a point where I loop a part, slow it down then play some high notes and speed it back up.

It sounds fucking insane, but I have to get better at it to make it more diverse.

atsonicpark 01.10.2008 05:51 PM

shoegaze is the best genre of music ever.

this is something i could get onboard with... i cant control my output - I'll write a three chord folk song and then want to rip of sonic youth... Writing on your own is a pain mind but you cant go wrong with mbv as a starting point.

atsonicpark 01.12.2008 08:29 AM

Cool, schizo rock. I think I am that.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.12.2008 09:02 AM

I like that. I was thinking about using my pretty singing voice in some song parts and then go into a high pitched insane freak voice when I need to crank it up a notch. :D

batreleaser 01.12.2008 10:17 AM

i am not technically the most profiecent player alive, so i tend to just play really fast, really loud, with tons of effects. i wouldnt prefer it any other way either.

I do not agree with this. Don't misread me, I love shoegaze, MBV is my second favorite band ever, Slowdive is not far below, but I don't think that's the best genre of music ever, mainly because of this "neo-gaze" wave that mostly bores me. I like Amusement Parks On Fire, M83, Experimental Aircraft and a few other bands, but most of these bands just SUCK, because they just try to re-create MBV sound, or Slowdive sound, or Boo Radleys sound, or Ride sound, etc, and then they stuck to it. When you listen to first shoegaze bands' albums, it's impressing to see how those bands have evolved, album by album, and that's in my opinion what made them so interesting: they had a wide palet of sounds, their songs were not always the same. But recent bands tend to do always the same thing and it really SUCK, it's like you're always hearing the same song over and over and over.
