duh?!

Well I have never heard them , but everything I've read about them is positive : what do they sound like?

PAULYBEE2656 01.21.2008 01:53 PM

yes, great great great! often forgotten but great! a blog remineded me of em recently!

batreleaser 01.21.2008 02:04 PM

ummm, well their often lumped in with post punk, but thats a really lax way to describe them. the best way to think of them is the bridge that connects krautrock and post-punk. they have the experimental elements of can, faust, neu etc..., but theyre guitars are reminescent of wire, the fall, and mayve even PIL. they directly influenced post-rock and to a lesser extent, noise rock. for simplicity sake, lets just call them experimental. just check them out, if youre into any of the aforementioned bands you wont be dissapointed. listen to 'deceit' first, then if you dig it check out their older shit.

Deceit is a very good choice for a first encounter with this great band. The Peel Sessions is also another good one. Nice to see a thread dedicated to them.

ace band!!i regret not getting the box set when it was cheaper.

Hex Enduction 01.21.2008 05:14 PM

Two UK bands along the same style from the same period & well worth you checking out are :

FIVE OR SIX ( Did a bunch of records on Cherry Red )
METABOLIST ( Stuff on their own Dromm Records )

..and they rank alongside This Heat easy !

sun city girl 01.23.2008 04:49 AM

yeah, great band!

Top Ten all time favorite band. I was listening to the Peel session LP the otherday for the first time in a year and was just floored by the music. I like batreleasers description above...

I don't know if they'll play again but recently Hayward was performing in a band called Clearframe with some exSoft Machine guy and free jazz players, really excellent stuff, those of you in London shouldn't missit.

I hadn't heard This Heat until I was in my mid-twenties. By that time I thought I was listening to a lot of cutting-edge, creative, and ground-breaking music. Turns out everything I'd been listening to had already been done nearly three decades ago. This Heat makes modern music seem irrelevant.

k-krack 01.24.2008 07:08 PM

Fuck man, When I heard Deceit, I had my mind blown so hard. I lent the mp3-cd that had it (along with a whole whack of other awesome stuff from a friend) to a friend, and ain't seen it since... :(

Does anyone know where to buy a copy of Deceit?! Fuck, ANYTHING.

James_Danger 01.24.2008 07:56 PM

I start with what I call the big three: Amazon, Reckless Records, Music Stack.

k-krack 01.24.2008 08:44 PM

hahaha good point, man.
Man, I'll have to pick up the box set sometime when I have a hundred bucks on hand.

GravitySlips 01.25.2008 10:35 AM

s/t and Deceit are both top class. Some of the best music from that era, definitely.

toxic johnny 01.25.2008 03:50 PM
